Subtitles Aren't Working - TheVinster - 2010-03-23 I use Japanese subtitles when I can on my dramas, which is most of them. Up until 3 days ago they worked fine. Then my subtitles for 傍聴マニア09 weren't working, I am expecting because it was not the typical 704x396 resolution that my dramas are in. Even though my subtitles generally work, sometimes I come across a set that won't work. So I opened up 傍聴マニア09 in Windows Media Player Classic and the subtitles started working, but I closed that momentarily. Now, for the past 3 days, no matter what version of WMP I use the subtitles refuse to work. Since we know that my subtitles have worked before I'm not sure what's happening now. Would be greatful if you could lend me some ideas as to troubleshooting this issue. Subtitles Aren't Working - RisuMiso - 2010-03-23 I would just use VLC and load the subtitles manually (advanced open file) and set it to UTF-8 (subtitle encoding) and it should work. Probaly due to the video file being .vob Subtitles Aren't Working - vix86 - 2010-03-23 The file being in VOB shouldn't be an issue since the subtitler in VLC should merely overlay the subtitles over the video. You should go into Preferences in VLC (Tools->Pref) and go under Video and double check that in the "Display" box you have "Accelerated video output" checked. If you are still experiencing troubles you might try unloading your codec pack (I assume you are using something like CCCP or K-Lite) and reinstalling the latest one. That might flush the bug out for you MPC player. VLC uses its own built in codecs though so the reinstall shouldn't effect that really... Subtitles Aren't Working - Babyrat - 2010-03-23 I mean the vob is loading but the subtitles are just not appearing. which is a shame as i have so many dvds that I can add subtitles to, but not wanting to hard sub. Subtitles Aren't Working - vix86 - 2010-03-23 Ya I got that. Its just weird that subs would suddenly stop working, especially on stuff you know it worked on previously. Obviously something was done that caused it stop working. If you have no idea, I'd still try the reinstall your codec pack. I realize the VOB loads in both VLC and MPC, but there is still software involved with the handling of subs (ie: vobsub). You might also try driver update on your video card, update on your directx if you haven't done that in awhile. Malware and Virus scans. Without having more information on maybe something you installed or uninstalled, or changed a setting. Its hard to know what suddenly just caused subtitles to stop working. This gets my vote.@Babyrat: Oh didn't notice, guess I'm tired. Were you trying to soft sub onto a Vob file or load subs from a vob file? If its the former, you may simply want to try a different media player. I strongly recommend Media Player Classic - Home Cinema (http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/) if you haven't tried it yet. Start your vob and just load the sub from the File>Load Subtitle. I just tried it on a VOB of mine and it worked well enough (after you change the video output settings to allow soft subs). Subtitles Aren't Working - Babyrat - 2010-03-23 ah thanks for the help but sorry I wasted your time, it was just bad subtitles. but im so happy now.. subtitles galore! Shame its a super pain in the ass to find subs for Anime. Subtitles Aren't Working - TheVinster - 2010-03-23 VLC is clearly working better because now I can see boxes, but just boxes. No actual Japanese font. I may reinstall my CCCP pack. Edit: Found out you can manually load subtitles for WMP Classic as well, so that seems to be working. I really hate how the WMP Classic interface looks though, so I hope my regular WMP starts working with subtitles again. Subtitles Aren't Working - RisuMiso - 2010-03-23 Also make sure your VLC player is updated. I had an old version and they weren't working until I updated. |
