When you still suck... - sikieiki - 2010-03-13 Im at a position where I am not good enough to read children's sites or simple novels, cutting down on reviews for the ~2200 kanji in my SRS, in the middle of Core2000, but am getting largely sick of reviews. I would like to spend time on something not SRS, but I am at a loss for materials that are in my i+1 range but dont pound me with 5 new kanji per sentence. Any ideas? When you still suck... - kazelee - 2010-03-13 http://hukumusume.com/douwa/pc/jap/01/01.htm These are somewhat simple. When you still suck... - Zarxrax - 2010-03-13 Have you done tae kim or some grammar book? If you know basic grammar, I would expect that you shouldn't have a ton of trouble understanding basic children's stories. Have you tried any manga? よつばと is one if the easiest ones I have come across. I don't understand all of it, especially when the adults talk, but most of the children's dialogue is very simple. When you still suck... - sikieiki - 2010-03-13 Grammar isnt hard...its the vocabulary which is my problem. I apparently have a rough time on kanji compounds. It becomes easier after you've seen it countless time and times over again. I still have trouble with some compounds to this day. But it's more of those rare ones i don't see often that trouble me. Vocab is still a problem for me, but vocab is a never-ending journey. Well at least until you've reached a considerably level of vocab, everything will be easier. I apparently have a rough time on kanji compounds.Vocab is probably the easiest thing to deal with. When you come across a word you don't know, look it up. If you are reading online, use Rikaichan. It doesn't matter if you don't know half of the words, just look them up. After you finish reading something short, read it again. If you forgot some words, look them up again. If you think they seem important to know right now, add them to your srs. Read it again. Move on to something different to read. Assuming its the same difficulty level, it should just get easier and easier as you go along, as you pick up more words. When you move to more difficult material, it can feel like you are back at square one again, but don't give up. Your vocab is increasing bit by bit, and before you know it, you will look back in amazement at all the the words you have learned. |
