I think it's "better" to use the link beneath the stacks to review all piles together. Gets things nice and jumbled up in your review session and tests your keyword - story - kanji recollection more thoroughly.
Secondly, I have a new policy of only reviewing 50 or so cards a day regardless of how many orange I have (currently 137). I'm hoping that over time, assuming I have a decent recall rate, this will balance things out nicely so that I never have loads of cards turning orange on the same day.

The randomization features that Mr. Fabrice added with the Jan. 20 update should, over time, even out the cards so you don't get large clumps on one day.
