I haven't found anyone pointing to this resource so I'll just put it here: The Japanese Page Fast Track Grammar
It's much quicker and less thorough than Tae Kim but it might be just what you need to get started on grammar.

Wow, that's actually a really nice find! Definitely right up my alley and right on my skill level. While it isn't as thorough as Tae Kim like you said, it just comes down to one's learning style and opinions.
I went through the basics of Tae Kim twice before I gave it up. His guide is amazing, it really is, but for me, it's just "too" in-depth and thorough. I get lost when I'm given all of the exceptions, all of the different ways to say something, etc. in one lesson. I really like how this page is organized into small bite-size chunks. It's very concise and to the point. It's far more beginner-friendly imo.
And while I do admit that you aren't going to know all of the little intricacies by using this page, I think it's of more immediate use to a true beginner who has no clue, and just needs the absolute basic building blocks.

That is actually the first Japanese grammar I learned in the good old days. I don't know if I would recommend it, if someone finds Tae Kim too much, they will definitely have issues learning Japanese.
It's not bad, but it IS very simple and non-comprehensive.

I don't even know how Tae Kim is too thorough. It's just not what I would imagine when someone mentions the word.
Maybe the overwhelming part comes from a lack of balance between usage and rules. That is observing how a rule is used, making points less abstract.

@thurd: Funny you should mention that just now. I stumbled upon the exact same page a couple of nights ago when I was googling for an explanation for a (stupidly basic) grammar point I'd forgotten. It was good, in that there was no beating around the bush, but it doesn't really explain things as well as TK would. Luckily, all I wanted was something to jog my memory
Begs the question, though - is this a new resource on TJP, or is it just a weird coincidence that you and I found it at about the same time...?

My bad
