I've added 3 more lists of Core 6000 in 2001KO order.

Someone tell smart.fm to release Core 10000. I want more sentences w/ native voice actors' audio for a general reference corpus.

This is a great resource. I've got a question though. If you've already worked through the "traditional" 2001KO lists is there a way for me to sort out the Core 2000/6000 vocab not covered in 2001KO?

kore: core2k+core6k complete, enhanced and sorted by kanji - Nukemarine - 2010-03-14

Activeaero, yes there is a way if you have the vocabulary list from 2001KO. This is easy to get if you do a query call using the smart.fm api (call a list for 500 word limit). just copy/paste into word and spreadsheets with a bit of find and replace to get a usable spreadsheet. This should have a kana and kanji in their own columns.

Next step, create a column to identify as a 2001KO word (have a column for the word order also), then paste in Core 2k6k lists (also with kanji and kana in separate columns).

Now the fun part: sort by kana then by kanji then by source with KO2001 having priority. Create a formula column that does comparison of a Core2k6k word with the entry above it checking both kanji and kana. a match means that word is both the same word in kanji and kana. (I used a 1 output for a positive match) Odds are its the same word.

All the "1" results should be Core2k6k words that are duplicates of either 2001ko or even other Core 2k6k words. Delete those along with the 2001KO entries and you have a spreadsheet with just unique Core 2k6k words.

Can someone give me a step-by-step on what to do to use Kore? I'm a bit lost.

kore: core2k+core6k complete, enhanced and sorted by kanji - gyuujuice - 2010-03-15

TheVinster, me too..
I wonder if it's possible to arrange all the facts/information so that the sentence and audio is on the front and the translation of the sentence is on the back... I want to study that way.

kore: core2k+core6k complete, enhanced and sorted by kanji - Nukemarine - 2010-03-15

Here's the thread I'm slowly building. It has links to the resources needed. In addition, I have a beginner deck uploaded to Anki so all you need to do is download the audio files and put in the .media folder. I can't upload the Basic and Intermediate decks onto Anki yet as I have the file on my main laptop I left back in California (forgot to copy it over to my thumbdrive for my trip to Japan).

http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?pid=91586#pid91586

**edit: Ah ha, I did keep the files. Ok, I went through and did Cloze Delete of all verbs for the remainder of Core 2k and uploaded the decks as Part 1 and Part 2.

Just search for the title "Core 2k/6k Japanese Vocabulary"

I'm probably going to upload the Core 6k words without doing Cloze Deletion as by that time each user can decide if it's worth the effort to them.

PS: Anyone find a source to download munged image files for Core 2k?**

I'm a lurker, but I just came in here to say thanks for all of this, this is great. Sadly, I still haven't quite worked out how to import the deck into Anki with all the trimmings even though I've read all the documentation available - but now with Nukemarine's beginner deck I can at least get started. Thanks again, you guys rock.

kore: core2k+core6k complete, enhanced and sorted by kanji - mastermx - 2010-03-17

OK guys I need some help. I've basically been doing Core 2000 without sorting it, and I'm getting words I don't need to know yet and missing the high frequency words. I'm up-to step 3 in the core 2000. I want to sort the deck but I don't want to lose the progress I've already made with cards I've already studied.

I opened up a new deck in Anki and began importing all the core 2000 steps. How do I sort these out in order of frequency without losing progress? is there a way?

kore: core2k+core6k complete, enhanced and sorted by kanji - Nukemarine - 2010-03-18

Mastermx,

That's easy.

1. Have a item in your fact that's set to be unique. I use the sentence number identifier myself (ex: Core 2000 Step 01 - 001).
2. Delete all facts you have not studied yet (easiest to sort by due date as unstudied ones are listed as "new").
3. Import the sorted list or my variant that's grouped then sorted (Steps 1 thru 2, Steps 3 thru 10, Core 6000).
4. Anki will ignore any fact that's a duplicate, so you're left with cards you haven't studied being added.
5. ???
6. Profit

kore: core2k+core6k complete, enhanced and sorted by kanji - vosmiura - 2010-03-19

Hmm, I'm kind of giving up on reviewing on Smart.fm.
The questions where you have to type English -> Kana spelling are just too ambiguous. Too many leeches there, and not a thing can be done about them Sad. Going back to Anki.

Thank you so much for clearing things up Smile I think i understand what i should be doing. But I'm still having problems. So i went to Cangy's website and downloaded the "Kore.txt" file, then i changed all the 27 fields as is stated on the site. But when i import i only get 983 facts or something like that, and they are all only in hiragana. Am i importing the wrong file?

Where is the sorted deck that you uploaded? Is it on a different thread. Because ive already completed step 3 of core2000 so i might just sort out the step 4-10 as you do and keep steps 1-3 separate.

EDIT: soz, just found that thread (scratches head in embarrassment) I have to go uni now, but im gonna have another go when i come back. Im guessing that even though the sorted deck for steps 1-2 is 400 facts it would increase to 2000 when reviewing by kanji sound and sentence is implented.

kore: core2k+core6k complete, enhanced and sorted by kanji - mastermx - 2010-03-19

This is what happens when i try to import the core2000 steps 3-10 using the csv on the nukemarine thread:

http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/4731/badimport.jpg

No sentences... just vocab.

kore: core2k+core6k complete, enhanced and sorted by kanji - TheVinster - 2010-03-19

I still don't understand how to do this. Sad

kore: core2k+core6k complete, enhanced and sorted by kanji - vosmiura - 2010-03-19

@mastermx
Did you change the card template to show the sentences?

kore: core2k+core6k complete, enhanced and sorted by kanji - Nukemarine - 2010-03-19

Mastermx,

1. Are you importing from a UTF-8 Text file? If not, it's best to do it that way. Easiest way to do that is open up the speadsheet, highlight and copy all the items (make sure they are sorted correctly), paste those into a text file, save the text file as a UTF-8 file.

2. Next, when you import ensure that you map the columns correctly. You should have a screen asking which column goes to which fact section.

3. Also, how are you setting up the questions to be displayed? I set mine up to display

Dictation Q:
%(Vocabulary - Sound)s %(Sentence - Audio)s %(Sentence - Image)s<br>
%(Vocabulary - Kana)s -- %(Sentence - Kana)s

Dictation A:
%(Vocabulary - Kanji)s -- %(Reading)s<br>
%(Vocabulary - English)s -- %(Vocabulary - POS)s -- %(Sentence - English)s -- %(Notes)s

Clozed Q:
%(Sentence - Image)s<br>
%(Expression - Clozed)s

Clozed A:
%(Vocabulary - Kanji)s -- %(Reading)s<br>
%(Vocabulary - Sound)s %(Sentence - Audio)s
%(Vocabulary - English)s -- %(Vocabulary - POS)s -- %(Sentence - English)s -- %(Notes)s

With so many fields (15 or 16) it's easy to forget to include a field or write it wrong.

Import the sorted Core2000 sentence list from this thread on anki. (http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?pid=91586#pid91586)

kore: core2k+core6k complete, enhanced and sorted by kanji - Nukemarine - 2010-03-19

Mastermx,

This is assuming you're using the google spreadsheet I have posted on my other thread "guide for beginners".

Here's the items in order:

Vocabulary - Kanji
Vocabulary - Furigana
Vocabulary - Kana
Vocabulary - English
Vocabulay - POS
Vocabulary - Sound (local type)
Expression - Clozed
Expression (this is the Kanji sentence)
Reading (this is the furigana sentence)
Sentence - Kana
Sentence - English
Sentence - Audio (local type)
Sentence - Image (local type)
2k6k Kanji Sort Index
Notes

Nukemarine:

Do I have to use the exact same wording including the brackets?

So this http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/8697/badimport2.jpg was wrong?

kore: core2k+core6k complete, enhanced and sorted by kanji - TaylorSan - 2010-03-19

ARRRG!

I have made a nice deck, but audio files are silent. I can't figure out why....

The sound files on the card are right. I can get the sound to work if I copy it from a card, do a search in the media, and then load the exact same code into anki...

Anyone know why it's a no go and what I might do to fix it?

EDIT:気にするな
I figured it out ... I hadn't typed in the feilds in the card template (バカ)

You need to match the names of the fields, so in your case "%(sentence-expression)s" for example.

Im confused... Arent the fields meant to be named after each coloum title in the CSV file? I tried adding the % and the () as you said but it still didnt work. I remember when i sorted the KO2001 sentences it wasnt as much trouble as this lol I already know how to say im going to vote for a political party in japanese but dont know how to say take me to the station! I need this bad. Core2000 is messed up without order. (unless of course you go through all of it. 連れる (つれる)to take being in step 10)

kore: core2k+core6k complete, enhanced and sorted by kanji - vosmiura - 2010-03-20

The names of the fields are what you've set up in the deck settings. When you import, they're shown as "Field 1 of file is: mapped to vocab-expression" for example. Your fields look fine in that screenshot.

If you want to have that field on a card, you add "%(vocab-expression)s" to the card template.

In my case, I'm using sentence reading cards, with the full sentence on the front, and the back has the sentence's furigana, meaning, sound, and key vocab's kana, and meaning.

The template for that is...

Question:
%(sentence-expression)s

Answer:
%(sentence-furigana)s
%(sentence-meaning)s
%(sentence-sound)s
%(vocab-kana)s
%(vocab-meaning)s

PS. If you import the CSV file with the column names in it, then you'll get cards created with those column names in them, so delete those.

Ahh I see! I didn't set up the card templates. I thought that happened automatically. Well i set up the sentences section now the sentences show up and also an error message with no vocab. I checked my card templates and all the facts have been moved under the "reading" card section. So my card templates are quite messed up.

Are there any instructions or pics on how i should set up the card templates, that should sort everything out.
