Input resources - thegeezer3 - 2007-05-06 Are there any graded reader books in japanese like oxford produces. Id love to be able to read some books but without so much kanji so as to be able to concentrate on reading the book and not a dictionary so much. Ive already got the "Breaking into japanse literature" book which is really good but unfortunately my japanese friends say the language is old literature sytle. Im after something which is more modern or casual.. maybe a yakuza classic etc. Also dramas/films/tv progs - what do you reccomend. Im in the uk so would have to buy/download (in legal ways) / borrow such stuff but id like something interesting to watch. 24hours of constant nons stop counter terrorist vocabulary would be great. Music - what music would you reccomend. I dont want any of that euro trance crap gyaru are always listening too but some stuff with lyrics - rock, hip-hop anything really! Natural podcasts/streams? I really want to get into the habit of listening to native japanesse rather than learner stuff. Any good links? Whats your favourite online reading stuff. Im going to start using rikai chan with engadget.com. Any good teenager newpapers sites out there? Ive checked out a lot of the links in the resources sticky and would have posted this there but wanted to keep that topic to just reccomendations only. Cheers Input resources - chamcham - 2007-05-06 maybe you should try reading manga. Lots of manga often have furigana over all the kanji. So even though you don't know what the kanji means, you can at least pronounce the word. And if you don't know the meaning of the kanji, try to guess it. If you can't, then just make up the story as you go along. I also had a Japanese friend who had her little child reading manga that had NO kanji. It was all hiragana. To be honest, that would confuse the hell out of me. But they do exist. Also, maybe try reading children's books. They're often simpler with easy vocabulary. Input resources - synewave - 2007-05-06 If you haven't already had a look, the What you reading? thread might be worth checking out. Don't know any graded readers. Personally reading stuff for 5 year olds doesn't interest me. If you're in Japan, I'd suggest heading down to BookOFF! and spending a few hours finding some stuff that interests you...105円 a book...I CANNOT EMPHASISE THAT ENOUGH!! What a great shop! EDIT: I've just realised that you're in Manchester...残念 EDIT2: Was the result at the weekend good or bad for you? It will enable you to read other things and you won't need "graded readers." Input resources - thegeezer3 - 2007-05-07 thanks for the info - the result was a good one (re football) but im not that a big a fan of football. As for the tips thank you. Actually im after adult books whose vocabulary and kanji arent too intense. The oxford graded readers actually let english learners read books such as a tale of two cities or sherlock holmes etc. They essentially find books which are already suitable for learners without modifying them so much. Thats pretty much what im after with furigana. Once i read one book ill attempt more kanji intense books. Bookoff is indeed a treasure trove and bargain. I used to go in there to find old super nintendo games to try and flog on ebay. never made any money out of it but it was fun finding games i used to play when i was a kid. right ill read up on that forum link. oh how about films/tv/music - any reccommendations?? |
