Double majors don't have minors. In any case, you're always allowed to take classes outside of your faculty (though you may not get credit that applies to anything), but the problem is time and scheduling.

He did indeed say it somewhere. I don't remember what blog entry it's under, but I do remember reading it somewhere Wink

I don't necessarily not believe him, but for the vast majority of people, it seems like a dumb idea to make such a drastic change. In order to use Japanese to learn, I assume, NEW topics in university, I would think you'd want to have a pretty decent grasp of reading and understanding Japanese already.

Seems a dumb idea to me to try and learn a topic like Comp. Sc. in Japanese if you're struggling to understand what your textbooks are even telling you. :/

Seems like a good idea to me, a lot of terms used in science are fairly easy to figure out and textbooks are made to put things in as simple a way as possible. I would still keep a copy of the English version but you I can see how the Japanese version would help.

While using a textbook in another language is a cool idea and will help you understand how that language talks about the subject you are studying, you must remember that your TESTS and ASSIGNMENTS are going to be in English, or whatever language you are taking the class in. I can see problems where some term needs to be used properly but you only know the Japanese word and can't think of the English word...

From what I've seen and know of comp sci , you generally don't have written assignments or questions. Just programs. It just has to work and be more or less elegant while doing it. Though you do start getting into more theoretical stuff later, which I guess requires more/some writing, that's higher-level.

Additionally, Khatz seems to have started in his last year, year and a half of college. I'm pretty sure most colleges are similar in that you take fewer classes your senior year than you did in previous years. And generally, you pick which ones to take, you're not forced into any of them (Except as much as you need to get all the required credits/hours/whatever). So it's at least possible, if he were to have compared texts for each class, to have a schedule with classes with Japanese texts available. Not sure how likely it is, but if Japanese versions exist, it's at least possible.

That depends on where the university falls on the theoretical-vs-practical end of the spectrum...

UK universities work differently, we don't have minors and majors. You just study one degree subject and may have the option to take some extra modules in an unrelated topic (such as Japanese).
