I've been reviewing that new large batch. So far it looks like they've got everything umm not posted here as that would be wrong, and with the method described above also procured everything not nailed down. ;p As expected, as what was posted here was just a few days worth of manual, hand-selected acquisitions (just sayin'). It might be tempting for some to add a batch of what's missing, i.e. that wasn't posted here or there, but I think with the aforementioned tools/method one should catch their own fish. /vaguery

Proposed solution - find software to batch convert filenames from SHIFT_JIS to UTF-8. So far I've only been able to find a program to batch convert the text inside the files. It's called Encoding Master (PC, Mac) - http://www.elfdata.com/encodingmaster/
But the filenames are still garbled. It seems there is a linux utility called convmv that could solve this, but I haven't found anything I could use with windows.

Tried it and it works! I didn't think it would, but apparently winrar saves the filenames to utf when extracting or something, it just needs to be under japanese locale at the time. Thank you.

So, quick summary for those who need a non-japanese locale:
1. change to japanese locale
2. extract archives with winrar (make sure it's up to date). This fixes the filenames.
3. change back to the locale that you require
4. run a batch converter on all text files (e.g. Encoding Master). This fixes the text encoding inside the files.

Or, someone could do this and reupload.

Pretty much all of my programs for Windows 7 (Firefox and other browsers, smoopy, ArisuViewer, UltraEdit, MS Word, Notepad++, yomichan (?), etc.) will display them. Some automatically detect the format, others you have to manually change in the given program.

I recommend grabbing cb4960's JNovel Formatter.

Oh and OpenOffice is weird, I can't seem to get it to display shift_JIS. Not sure if it supports it, so you'd want to use one of the other above programs to convert if for some reason you really want to read them in OO Writer.
