Questioning my studies and j-drama questions. - stplush - 2010-02-10
I'm currently going through nukemarine's smartfm list. I add 10 sentences a day and review that deck and RTK deck each day. During study for the sentences I write them out by hand as I want writing as a skill. I usually write them during reviews as well. My deck is recognition, do you think writing is meaningless for a deck such as this? And is this enough studying per day?
Plus I'm wanting to get into j-dramas, but I'm unsure of using torrents. I hear that your IP address is pretty much "up for grabs" by anyone and that you could easily be caught by the authorities. I'm not asking where to get them, just if you guys think it's safe.

Yes torrents are safe if you play it smart.
As for the deck, you're talking about NukeMarine's list? So I guess that would be the KO2001 deck? If so, writing is definitely useful. I think it helps you cement the kanji, and gives you time to keep saying the new words over in your head. For studying, that's really at your own pace. I think kanji is a mouthful, and where I would recommend more studying in other situations, writing takes a while. Soon the sentences will build up and you might regret doing anything more.
If you ever feel unsure about your studying, I might recommend timeboxing to help split-up the workload and give you smaller, more concentrated, goals.

I would recommend only writing them when you first learn the sentence and then again on ones you miss during reviews. That should give you plenty of writing practice and more time to study.

That should give you plenty of writing practice and more time to study.this seems like a good suggestion. Since you are doing RTK the stroke order and stuff shouldn't be a problem. Obviously writing the words helps match the kanji to the word but if you can recognize the word from the kanji then I don't really see a need to waste a minute or two writing it out.
torrenting is nice, obviously if you are worried about downloading illegal content then the best thing to do is not download illegal content.

In my dormitory quite a few people had their fair share of trouble because of downloading torrents. Can't say anything for the US though. If you want to stay safe, use Megaupload, Rapidshare and the like.
