Realism Wrote:Just found out about Ken the 390....he's pretty refreshing.

He does the "clean pop" sound almost as good as Kreva.
Man brah, how long you be into J-Rap lol

Dope Japanese Hip-Hop - Realism - 2014-04-09

Yeah his debut My Life is really good.

I think his worst is Dream Boy, but even that was fresh as hell.

But my gripe is that he always has 2-3 dumb annoying pop songs on every album, but the rest makes up for it easily.

Big Ben's My Music is damn near amazing.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/my-music/id658656356

It's a simple and personal album but this guy has his own distinct style without overstepping the boundaries of "weird", it's still somewhat experiment but overall it's really nice Hip-Hop.

Dope Japanese Hip-Hop - Realism - 2014-04-11

OMG I-DeA's 12 Ways is jaw-dropping. Can't believe it took me this long to listen to it.

Probably the best produced album of 2013, the songs with Takuma the Great and Pony are out of this world. This guy is definitely one of the best producers out there.

呼煙魔's Cosmic Cube is solid as well, some really cool and interesting tracks on there.

Dope Japanese Hip-Hop - Realism - 2014-04-14

Can't stop playing 5Lack's 5 Sense

Track 8 - 15 is just unrelenting banger after banger, a stretch of great songs with no interruption.

Dope Japanese Hip-Hop - kurohachi - 2014-04-24

Cosign on 5sence, very solid album. Just came back from Japan to visit fam there, copped the Be in Ones Element and Bang Blacks vinyl LPs from Manhattan Records. I gotta check out that IDea and Maki the Magic albums.

This is a good one. D-Earth is the producer for 鬼一家, just found out he has an instrumental album out. It's a shame he didn't get those guys to rap over them (except for 1 song), because most of these beats are pretty amazing. Looks like he saved his best beats for his own album.

Dope Japanese Hip-Hop - Realism - 2014-04-28

That new Nagmatic album....holy shit.

I'm not crazy about producers these days still using the 90s NY sound but Nagmatic does it better than all of them.

Four years ago, I was kind of a dick.

Also, my youtube playlist has been destroyed by copyright infringement takedowns. Soon, I'll try to track down all the old tracks and see if I can't find mirrors.

In your first post you said there was a Japan mixtape by Pete Rock?

I can't seem to find any info on it.

Can you share it?

Dope Japanese Hip-Hop - Twinblades - 2014-07-03

ANARCHY's new album previews sound hot. I never liked this guy cuz I always thought he was wasted potential as an artist. But now that he's hopping on more "pop" sounds it's coming together for me.

Dope Japanese Hip-Hop - john555 - 2014-07-03

For those into dance music, I came across this interesting article yesterday. I'm not sure if this is happening in Japan though:

It was Japan-only, not Japanese music.

A question about the music posted here. Is it just me or are rappers pronouncing Japanese with a Western drawl, almost in iambic pentameter? For example, tracks 4--7 of
or is it just an artifact of being music? But jpop doesn't have Japanese pronounced this unusually.

Dope Japanese Hip-Hop - Linval - 2014-07-25

That's interesting, I guess it depends on the artist.
doesn't have any such americanised prosody. The link above seems to be mimicking american rap in more ways than just the music itself ; everything from the video to the intonation seems to be fit the bill.

For some reason most of the J-HipHop songs posted here sounds like USA hip-hop to a degree.

There are tons of Japanese rappers who are completely original and doesn't do that "western" pronounciation at all. However they don't get talked about here a lot (if at all). If you want some recommendations I can show you.

That KYN album is incredible though, one of the most complete albums I've ever heard, I wouldn't let the pronounciation stop you from checking it out.

Rau Def and Freez are the worst offenders. Freez sounds like a gaijin straight up.

Good looks on LLKP. I heard snippets from the LLKP album The New Power on itunes. Very solid, liked all tracks except the SFB one. Kroud from MADS is in the group, which is great. I might buy it. I want to hear their first album now.

Yes. I really dig most tracks by SD Junksta and its members (KYN, Norikiyo, et al.). Is iTunes or Amazon MP3 the right way to get this rare music? Youtube/Soundcloud deliver it only in bits and pieces.

You can find free mixtapes on Twitter and Bandcamp.

Itunes is the best place though, if they don't have it then go to Ongaku-Eternal, there are tons of J-Rap albums uploaded there.
