Where can I buy RTK in Japan? - cat_queen_sophie - 2009-12-31

Is it even sold in Japan? I'm currently an exchange student in Japan and I have a lot of spare time in class that could be spent on RTK. I've used the PDF previously but now I would really like the book. What store sells it? In Nagoya would be better.

Sorry if this has been asked previously. I only have limited time on the internet so don't have time to look through the archives.

I'm not suer about Nagoya, but I've seen it in Junku (ジュンク堂書店).

Also amazon.co.jp is always an easy option.

Goto the book store on the 10th or 11th (or somewhere around there) floor of Nagoya station. I saw it there.

There is a Junku down the street from Nagoya station too (walking towards Kokusai Center stn).

amazon.co.jp is very good as well, and they take American credit cards (and have an English version of the site). The delivery is ridiculously fast and your shipping is often free.

Maruzen in Okayama-shi stocks all 3 RTK books. I saw them last week. I've just checked and there is a Maruzen in Nagoya. There address and location can be found here:

Okayama has a big branch of this store. If the Nagoya branch is smaller, they might not be in stock but Maruzen could certainly order for you.

It's worth comparing the price in Maruzen (or any other bookstore) with Amazon.co.jp. I bought both RTK1 and RTK3 from Amazon in Japan and they were considerably cheaper. For example, last week I bought RTK3 for 3099 yen from Amazon whereas in Maruzen it was was 4725 yen! If you order from Amazon.co.jp while in Japan I think delivery should be free. It's worth comparing bookstore and Amazon price just before ordering because Amazon price can vary - I don't know why but perhaps it's because RTK are now printed by University of Hawaii and US$ vs yen exchange rate varies.

Cool, I wasn't aware of that Maruzen even though I was only a block away a couple days ago. I tend to buy my books at Bookoff or Amazon anyways though (and do tachiyomi at kinokuniya or sanseidou).

The Maruzen in Sakae (on Hirokoji) has it--that's where I got mine. Just head to the foreign book section. I've seen it in several bookstores around Nagoya (those that are big enough to have a foreign section).

Doesn't Heisig work in Nagoya?

Most of the bookstores I've been to in Osaka that are big enough to have a Japanese language learning section have had it. I assume it's the same anywhere else.

Still I would recommend setting up an Amazon Japan account, just because it's so awesome.

I bought mine at AER. But it was kinda expensive and I had wished that I bought it online! x.x
