Final Fantasy XIII - mastermx - 2009-12-21 I've been looking forward to this game for a long time. Has anyone tried importing it? Is it any good for studying Japanese? It looks awesome, would be nice to play it before everyone else and learn at the same time
Final Fantasy XIII - dizmox - 2009-12-21 I'm looking forward to FFXIV in the hope I can actually input in JP AND English text and talk to the Japanese players unlike with FFXI... Final Fantasy XIII - bombpersons - 2009-12-21 Should be getting it soon =D Unfortunately my PS3 appears to hate me and has decided to ylod (yellow light of death) on me =( My warranty was out so, I decided to just get a new Slim PS3. Hopefully that should arrive soon too =P Final Fantasy XIII - harhol - 2009-12-21 Mine is also in the post... can't wait. Final Fantasy XIII - Hashiriya - 2009-12-21 I'm looking forward to FFXIV as well... make sure to sign up for the beta if you haven't already: http://kotaku.com/5428296/square-enix-now-taking-final-fantasy-xiv-beta-applications FFXIII would be great to play in Japanese provided that you have a decent amount of knowledge of Japanese to begin with Final Fantasy XIII - wccrawford - 2009-12-21 Mine arrives today. I'm dying here. ![]() Since FF stories are usually pretty heavy on story, that part is going to be tough... Luckily, they are heavy on visuals as well. For the fighting, once you know what the menus say, it should be fairly easy to just play. Lord knows I don't really 'read' the menus in English once I know what's where. Final Fantasy XIII - chamcham - 2009-12-21 my copy of FF13 was delivered today. Can't wait to get back home. Final Fantasy XIII - wishroom - 2009-12-21 Mine should be here by tomorrow. Final Fantasy XIII - Ryuujin27 - 2009-12-21 Getting this as a Christmas present. Can't wait! I've read on a site or two that this game is completely voice-acted, as in even if you go up and talk to someone walking around town, you get a spoken voice in response. That's pretty cool if it's true! Final Fantasy XIII - Hashiriya - 2009-12-21 yeh it is... i watched it played.. everything is completely voiced over Final Fantasy XIII - Blank - 2009-12-21 I'll probably order this today. Anyone who got it online, which site did you use? I like play-asia, but it looks like they have 2 versions for sale; I can't tell what the difference is, except that one is $10 cheaper for some reason. http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-bp-49-en-70-3k25.html http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-bp-49-en-70-3m3l-4-6.html Anyone know what that's about? Final Fantasy XIII - Hashiriya - 2009-12-21 one is the "Asia" region game while the other is the "Japan" region game... i don't think there is really any much difference Final Fantasy XIII - Ryuujin27 - 2009-12-21 Hashiriya Wrote:yeh it is... i watched it played.. everything is completely voiced overThat's awesome! Good news! Thanks for the verification! Final Fantasy XIII - harhol - 2009-12-21 Blank Wrote:Anyone who got it online, which site did you use?eBay cheaper than the retail price and free postage Final Fantasy XIII - wishroom - 2009-12-21 Just now dropped it off, can't wait to try it later.
Final Fantasy XIII - Grinkers - 2009-12-21 I'm playing it now, and it's great! Oh wait I'm posting now. That means I should stop reading and posting here, and play FF13! I'm liking it so far, and everything so far as been voiced over except battle descriptions. Overall I've found the Japanese level also very easy to understand, however it's still probably "advanced". Just a little tip I found while looking up a couple words. If you press the playstation button, the game pauses (including cutscenes) but you can still see the text in the background. If you pause using the start button, it grays out and you can't see anything. It's great if you can understand most of the game aside from a few words, but I don't think it'd work very well line by line. Final Fantasy XIII - KREVA - 2009-12-21 Why is the pre-order English version nearly half the price of the Japanese/Asian versions on eBay? >.> Final Fantasy XIII - stplush - 2009-12-21 Some guy took some lewd photos of himself with the game disc...I don't know if it's ok to post it, but mod me if it isn't... http://blog.livedoor.jp/htmk73/archives/1958438.html Final Fantasy XIII - wccrawford - 2009-12-21 KREVA Wrote:Why is the pre-order English version nearly half the price of the Japanese/Asian versions on eBay? >.>Supply and demand. Even the mindless drivel of random people you walk up to. It's pretty immersive. Most of them even have subtitles as well! Speaking of... Thanks to my crappy level of Japanese, and the fact that the background music is so loud I can't hear their speech well, the subtitles are a God-send. Not that I fully know what's going on, but at least I have some idea. I was gonna post my favorite bit in spoiler tags, but they apparently aren't supported here. Oh well. Final Fantasy XIII - kerosan41 - 2009-12-21 I'm about 11 hours in. I got the Lightning edition ps3 ^_^. I ordered it and it arrived at my door less than 24 hours later! I'm having a hard time following some of it, but I've only done half of KO2001 so thats understandable I think. Luckily, its not hard at all to figure out the menus ect. I've started a FFXIII list on smart.fm so I can easily keep track of words I want to learn on the fly. I just type in the world and add it to the list, and study it later so I don't have to interrupt my game play. Final Fantasy XIII - Blank - 2009-12-21 Glad you guys are enjoying it. I personally won't be able to start playing until after the new year, and I expect there are others in a similar situation...so just in case I'd like to suggest that we try to keep this topic spoiler-free in terms of the game's story (thanks for refraining wccrawford ). Usually when a game I'm anticipating comes out, I avoid reading anything about online until I'm done, but in this case I'm very interested in your experience with the game and your impressions on understanding the Japanese. Just don't want to accidentally come across some crazy spoiler!
Final Fantasy XIII - Ryuujin27 - 2009-12-21 KREVA Wrote:Why is the pre-order English version nearly half the price of the Japanese/Asian versions on eBay? >.>This is due to the cost of media in Japan, which is far more expensive than it is in America. That's why you will see the price of Blu-ray in particular jump far above the cost of blu-rays in America. It's a shame, but it's the price we pay for having an abundance of awesome media, I guess? kerosan41 Wrote:I've started a FFXIII list on smart.fm so I can easily keep track of words I want to learn on the fly. But I personally don't like smart.fm, so I just go ahead and write it down on a piece of paper. Usually along with the reading if I didn't know it, or a quite meaning if I needed that. That way, if it comes up in the game again I'll remember writing it down and just glance over. Usually that second time through is enough to cement it in there. wccrawford Wrote:Yeah, I haven't found any characters that don't have voiceovers yet... You just turned my level of excitement from over the top to simply unimaginable! Only 4 more days until Christmas! My only wish now is that I had my PS3 early so I could finish the game of 龍が如く見参 that I started on my friend's system. Final Fantasy XIII - thurd - 2009-12-22 Since I'm at the beginning of KO2001 (600 sentence) I'm bound to have even more problems than some of you. I'm going to try it anyway but I'm confused about an approach I should take: 1. Create a word list and later add example sentences with those words into SRS 2. Type only sentences that are n+1, max n+2 into SRS 3. Type each sentence I don't fully understand into SRS Each has pros and cons both gaming and study wise, I'm interested with the most efficient study method and consequently leaning towards second option. There's also the question of when to do actual study/reviews
