Real College Credit for JLPT type tests... - Hashiriya - 2009-12-16

Hey guys, I have been digging around lately trying to find out if there is a test that I could take in Japanese to get some real college credit for... anyways, i have come up with this: http://professionals.collegeboard.com/testing/ap/coordinate/prep/language they have tests in both Japanese and Chinese. you can find your college here to see what kind of credit you can get here: http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/apcreditpolicy/index.jsp for the college I am transferring to at the end of this year UGA: http://www.reg.uga.edu/or.nsf/html/uga_ap_credit_equivalencies i could get 6 credit hours for it

Now, the only question is... is this for people in high school only or can i take this type of test at my college as I can a CLEP test?

EDIT: apparently, you can call and find out if you can test for an AP course somewhere http://64.191.211.145/student/testing/ap/reg.html still not sure if this only applies to high school or can be used for college students too

EDIT 2: I sent an e-mail out to inquire about taking it... I'll let you guys know if I hear anything back from them

meh, apparently AP tests are only available to High School students from what I understand. Anybody that is high school age should check into this though..

I'm pretty sure, if you get written approval from a Japanese instructor, that you can have your Japanese studies count towards your foreign language credits. I'm sure JLPT would be sufficient as well--although JLPT 4 probably only for your first year.

If not, then I'm never going to get my AA because that's the only thing I need to do still.

Yup, AP only for high school. I'm taking the AP Exam this year also. AP Credit policy differs between colleges though and is dependent on your score. A 5 is the highest (which isn't necessarily perfect) with a 1 being the lowest. Scores of 3 and above are given credit, although some colleges only accept scores of a 5.

Also, most colleges seem to have placement exams that can determine your level and credits. Differences between colleges of course but you might want to look into that? Some colleges award credit for skipped levels while some just place you at a higher one.

it's a shame that Japanese CLEP tests aren't offered..
