I wanted to share with you this good news: the famous P2P site Demonoid is back!

Apparently there's been some data loss, but most probably if you had an account before the site went offline, you should be able to use the same username and login.

I love torrents too, but there are other options just as good if not better in many cases (japanese music dream, etc etc.).

Using P2P, so torrents as well are not allowed in Japan. To upload stuff (which you do with those programs is forbidden) and starting next year, downloading will be forbidden as well (even if it's a direct download).

It's not illegal to use torrents in Japan at all, nor is it illegal to use any other form of P2P. It's illegal to break copyright laws and distribute copyrighted works, and will soon be illegal to download them too. However, there are many legitimate uses of p2p networks.

Well, but most things that are up- or downloaded break copyright laws.

Yeah, but you can't monitor direct downloads (i.e, rapidshare and megaupload), can you?

I have no idea, but I hope so. I only use direct downloads here in Japan, I stopped using torrents since I came here.

Of course you can. All the data goes through your ISP so they can easily see that you downloaded something from a site. In all probability, they can see what it was too. So basically, if it was a password protected rar with an inconspicuous name, you're fine. Otherwise, you're probably still fine. But they can probably see it.
