2009 Reflections + 2010 Resolutions - Offshore - 2009-12-28 2009 summary: -It was a decent year I guess. Come Jan. of 2009, I didn't know what a kanji was, and I had a shaky grasp of kana. Come Jan. 1 2010, I have completed RtK, and started moving forward with other study tools. I'm still a complete beginner in Japanese though ![]() -I received my 2 yr. Associate Degree, and got accepted to a 4 yr. school to pursue a Bachelor's in Computer Science, which I'm excited about. It also puts me that much closer to being able to apply for JET ![]() 2010 goals: -I'd like to have a better grasp of Japanese. As of now, I know pretty much no vocab, grammar, or anything. Total beginner. I'd like to be able to read/hear/watch VERY basic things and be able to understand/enjoy them for what they are. -Finish KO2001 and check out Core2000 series. KO2001 is in the mail, and I've checked out Core2000 which looked interesting. -be able to play through my copy of Final Fantasy 13 by the end of the year, and maybe understand more than 5% of it ![]() -Become more familiar with the tools of the trade. There's so many programs and learning methods and things that this forum points to and mentions. It's like an information overload for me. I'd like to get to the point where I understand what people mean when they say "go do this" and "then mix it with that", etc. -Kinda goes with the above, but, learn how to use Anki effectively. And ultimately, get to the point where I know enough about the tools of the trade, to where I can develop my own study habits and preferences. 2009 Reflections + 2010 Resolutions - tinonet - 2009-12-28 First post, although been using the site for a little while. 2009: Started Japanese as a complete beginner in October 2009. Finished Hiragana, then found AJATT and this site. Got RTK books and plunged into kanji (around 1200 now). Listening j-pop, j-podcasts on my ipod most of the time. 2010: - Finish RTK1 and kana by mid-Feb. - Finish grammar with "Japanese the Manga Way" - Finish Assimil "Japanese with ease" (mine all sentences and listen to audio). - I am not sure about KO2001, want to try sentence mining approach... - Finally learn to read (Japanese text looks very daunting right now, but adds more motivation) - read manga and hopefully light novels (continue vocabulary study and sentence mining). - starting to understand raw anime - Start with Kanzen 2? - Sit and pass JLPT2? <--- too aggressive? I've been trying to keep up with about 4hrs of Japanese study every day (more on weekends) (on top of full time job).... Anyone did JLPT2 in a year? |
