Holy crap, that's fantastic. I can't wait to get back home so I can download some of these shows and subs.

Are there any other huge breakthroughs I might have missed these past 3 or 4 months?

The abundance of subtitles and the constant improvements to subs2srs--have you got the latest versions? Tonnes of new options. Also, magamo has posted like a billion awesome comments in the past 3-4 months.

Also, 'back in the day' (not very long ago) I had to really stay on the ball to make sure I could get different series via d-addicts, before seeds dissipated or dwindled to slow down my, ah, acquisitions. Now there are so many DDL sites discoverable by Googling for megaupload/blogspot/etc., I never worry about taking my sweet time in procuring series. Maybe it's just me, but it feels like that they've hit a peak just recently.

Ah thanks, I'll have to make sure I get the latest version of Subs2SRS.

'Back in the day' j-subs were like the holy grail; searching for them was the biggest impediment to easily mining a variety of shows. To see that this problem has mostly gone away is pretty damn exciting.

Now I just have to wait until I have access to high speed internet again...

Is there a thread or site that tells a novice how to select a show with a given genre, difficulty, Japanese subtitles, download it, and make a copy for playing in a DVD player? And is there a place, like a night market, where one can buy cheap DVDs?

nestOr, I tried your instructions and it still failed on me. I'm using KmPlayer and when i load the .ssa file, even though the previous word file was japanese, the .ssa file loads as unrecognizable junk. could you send me your .ssa files or upload them somewhere?
Thanks.

tokyo dogs. it's bad. don't watch it. I just skimmed through the 1st ep through a streaming site and it's bad.... and the reviews on ch-review.net are all saying it sucks.

Liar game 2. It's not as good as liar game I. One it's 44 minutes instead of 35 minutes (1st season)
but I'm a fan so I still watched it. I would suggest FFwrding so you wathc it in 35minutes .
I had trouble with the money amounts since I first have to think of oku or man as yen then i have to convert to USD. I just wrote it in notepad and just go ohhh it's that much money.

Most of the Japanese is well... easy.

Gyne: well-done drama. you know how most dramas have that cheap/cliche feel just from the camera-work. it doesn't have those cheap/cliche elemts or it's kept a minimum.... It's one of the more well-donedramas/medical dramas (not as good as JIN plus jin has the jidai geki element to it...) I found it interesting and i loved some of the arcs (well entertaining as a drama should be. it's good entertaininemntt

JIN - well you can imagine how it's going to be challenging in some ways but overall i can figure out most of it (ie. when sakamoto ryouma talks in his tosa-ben... I can figure out 99% of what he says from its simliarities with normal japaense.)

shoukojo seira. = BORING so i only saw the 1st ep.. Japanese is easy for most part.

samurai high school - very silly/sorta stupid. it's fun in the beginning... gets unbearablye boring and pointless once mid-point hits so i fast-forwad/watched rest... in other words ep 6-9 in 30 minuteslol.

Difficult to easy is
Jin, Gyne, Liar Game, samurai high school, (tokyo dogs), shoukojo seira..
I mean there are subs so they become less difficult... can't imagine watching jin or gyne wo j-subs

Best drama to worstdrama
jin, gyne, liar game, samurai high school , shoukojo, tokyo dogs

I would imagine tokyo dogs' would be harder but then again i'v eonly seen skimmed version of ep 1 of shokoujo and tokyo dogs (hence they're not interesting/not worth my time)

so I suggest wathcing JIN & GYNE and you can learn some medical words as well as japanese used in now-a-days/not now a days. If you're a fan of the first LG, i would reocmmend the 2nd season if you are going to FFWRD as needed.

Now, did you read the review before you watched it?
