Attempt at Japanese play on words. - Babyrat - 2009-11-11

I was trying to think of a name for my site (in progress) with play on words in Japanese and I tried this and im wondering if it actually works

オタク
検討 (not sure what the word for review is)

オタク + 検討 = お他見(おたけん) otaken reviews.

Does this work as "showing people reviews"?
I know the "o" is a bit out of place but its needed, is it a major nono to use it in this context?

would love some feedback on this, as im still pretty bad at Japanese.

Thanks for any help/feedback in advance.

I'm assuming you are making a game/anime review site, but product reviews aren't called 検討 in Japanese. 検討 means more like reviewing a contract/offer/etc.

Well I have no idea but i'll go ahead and give my 0.5 cents.

お他見 may be taken as an honorific for 他見.

Secondly, http://knowyourmeme.com/i/12463/original/otaku1.jpg this is not an exaggeration as to what "オタク" in the ears/eyes of a Japanese actually depicts, so are you sure you want to have your site name to have something to do with オタク?

I think this is a closer word to the review you seem to be after, 批評.

Again, I'm just breaking the ice here.

@jarvik I thought as much, hence why im asking here. Do you have the word for reviews in that context? I will try and make a play on word with that *sigh* it passes the time!

@liosama:Its true that otaku is a very derogatory word, but not many people know this except people learning the language. Infact many western people see it as a compliment (dont ask me why) or assume it means nerd. And this is why i chose the work otaku. Same with the english word nerd/geek, often seen as a insult but still alot of people call themselves that with pride. Thanks for hopefully the real word for review Smile.

The most common/natural word for product reviews is.. レビュー
Good luck making a pun /w otaku with that.

Just good luck? not even giving me a miracle.. BAH!

Guess I need to rethink this without using otaku, any similar words that doesnt make you a weird creepy guy that stalks people?

レビューlation... hohoho *cry*
