I was going to post here asking for help differentiating the two structures after finding no luck searching Google when I came across a helpful post on the topic on a different forum. And the author of the post is..... Magamo! I thought I'd post a link to it here in case anyone else needed clarification as well. The ensuing discussion between Magamo and NileCat, who it seems is also a native Japanese speaker, is also worth reading.

It also outs yudantaiteki as being Chris Kern, a name I knew from sci.lang.japan. Small world, this :-)
