whale - taijuando - 2007-03-16 http://www.popjisyo.com/WebHint/AddHint.aspx?d=7&e=shift_jis&r=e&s=0&du=&u=http%3a%2f%2fwww.yomiuri.co.jp%2ffeature%2fgraph%2f070314%2f01.htm Here's a story about a whale that got trapped in a bay. Local fishermen tried to help it but the whale had other ideas. I used the popjisyo.com furigana translator to figure out details a little better. Not perfect translations but fun. Scroll over the Japanese text to see the furigana of various kanji. whale - scooterinjapan - 2007-03-17 *That* is a blast! Thanks for the link! whale - RoboTact - 2007-03-17 Any specific advantage over rikaichan? whale - taijuando - 2007-03-17 haven't tried rikaichan...is it rikaichan.com? I'd be interested if people would post more japanese links ...whatever you find interesting post a link so we can all enjoy through reading....a quick English summary might be great, too... well I don't have firefox... this website you can use from whatever computer you are on..... whale - RoboTact - 2007-03-18 It'll pay off to install firefox just to try rikaichan. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ http://www.polarcloud.com/rikaichan/ whale - chamcham - 2007-03-18 the only advantage I can think of is that it supports Spanish, Korean, and Chinese whale - taijuando - 2007-03-26 can people please post some interesting news links here....weird but fun news, etc...in Japanese of course whale - elktapestry - 2007-03-26 Definate agreement with RoboTact of this one!! Rikaichan is ESSENTIAL for my daily use of the internet in conjunction with Japanese sites. I use it here I use it there, I use it everywhere. Also, Firefox itself, as a browser has lots of worthwhile functions and flexible numerous plugins you can install that are helpful to people like us... yeah. whale - Serge - 2007-03-27 Wow, it looks like Popjisyo will become my new favourite. Advantages over Rikai? Plenty: it gives not only kanji but also hiragana words and even Mandarin and Cantonese readings. In fact, personally, I've stayed away from Rikaichan as it makes me lazy and I find myself not making an effort. I do occasionally use Rikai, though, but that's a more conscious process... whale - Ramchip - 2007-03-28 It's an advantage for all IE/opera/etc. users, such as me. Posting links to interesting stuff is a nice idea too... there could be a "link repository" in the reading section where people could post links, classified by difficulty. That's just one idea among many though
whale - elktapestry - 2007-03-28 Why would anyone use Internet Explorer anyways? Haven't used Opera... perhaps it has it's advantages, I'm happy enough using Firefox though. |
