Well, in your fields window you don't have an audio field! Without it it won't work!

Wow! I might just switch to the Core2000 list instead. Getting bored of that guy from KO2001. Maybe its time to sort all my subs2srs stuff too!

Does anyone know how many kanji the Core2000 list cover?

EDIT: Vileru, I just managed to import the deck myself. All you need to do is add some fields corresponding to the text file and then reimport.

My fields are:

Expression
Meaning
Reading
Audio
Image
Frequency Index

EDIT2: I dunno if its just me, but these Core2000 sentences are ultra easy! I'm half way through KO2001. Should I just keep going through KO2001?

Just you wait, he changes to a woman halfway through. Exciting stuff.

Ah, the sorted sentences don't have anything for the vocabulary words. I'll probably update the googlesheet with a block for Frequency Sort.

Let's make sure before I do this:

1. Core 2k (0001 - 2000) is sorted by 2001KO Order.
2. Core 6k (2001 - 6000) has not been sorted by 2001KO Order, but will be soon.

So, if anyone uses the Google spreadsheet, export to your normal spreadsheet. Sort by the KO2k1 Freq block. Export as a UTF-8 file. Import into Anki. This'll give you a sentence sorted deck that also has blocks for vocabulary the sentence is meant to teach.

For everyone trying the sorted sentences, keep us updated on how this new order is helping you, especially when you get into Core 6k. This may be useful for people that will start learning Chinese also (Mandarin or Cantonese).

For the suggestion about sorting subs2srs, I think that's a bad idea. Subs2srs gives context, of which the introduced order follows. Still, if you do it, post the results for both good and bad experiences.

@Mezbup: Yeah I noticed that as I'm using frequency order now, and it is different to KO2001 order so I hear the lady sometimes. But the lady sounds just as bored and professional as the guy. Maybe she's his sister or something.

@Nukemarine: I don't see how a different order would cause a problem.

Normal order:
The cards are introduced in order, yes, but when you do subsequent reviews they're out of order anyway!

Frequency order:
Out of order right from the initial review.

Though it might help if you do one episode at a time with frequency order. That way you keep the number of cards in a set range, as opposed to having to review some cards from episode 150 since it has more common kanji.

Worked perfectly. Thanks for the help.

I took a look at the first 100 cards or so, and I came to the same conclusion (they're super easy). I highly recommend trying out the sorted sentences to those you haven't yet done so.

It's clear each of us that use subs2srs use it differently. Some are using it as a source of sentences in bulk, some are using it with key sentences picked ahead of time, and some like myself are using it to deconstruct (what I call process) an episode.

Since I'm using it to process, it'd be silly to do it out of order as I'm trying to figure out the episode as a whole and not just learn individual words or sentences. If you're using it as a source of random sentences, then I guess sorted would be cool but that's only a guess. Again, it'd be interesting to hear people's results from doing that.

At the moment i am at ~500 sentences
It is much easier like this. However i hope someone will sort the core 6000 deck soon and is kind enough to post it here ( ´∀`), i tried sorting the core deck but cant seem it to get it to work.

KO 2001 Kanji/Word progression - Nii87 - 2010-01-19

Can someone tell me what the difference in Core 2000 and Core 6000 is? Is it more compounds for the same kanji, or does it cover the more obscure kanji instead?

KO 2001 Kanji/Word progression - chameleoncoder - 2010-01-19

The Core lists aren't about kanji really, just vocab. The Core 6000 is just 6000 more to learn after the Core 2000 list (I believe).

Nah, it's 4000 more to learn after the 2000, which is why it becomes 6000.

I second this: The sorted deck has actually got me back to not dreading doing reps again.
it was getting frustrating having to deal with i+x (where x is between 5 and 20! Smile )

Also, is there any news on extra 4k to complete the core6k?

KO 2001 Kanji/Word progression - Nukemarine - 2010-01-19

Mista,

The "advanced Japanese" which we'd probably dub Core 10k supposedly has been in development the last year or so. It's just never been released.

I wonder if Smart.FM (well, Cerego) is holding it in reserves as part of a subscriber option.

PS: I offered a suggestion to Smart.FM to sort their Core and Intermediate series according to 2001KO order.

http://feedback.smart.fm/forums/27076-1-suggest-features/suggestions/444114-offer-core-2k-and-6k-sorted-by-2001ko-order

If you like the suggestion, and have a Smart.FM account, why not add a vote or two to it.

I'm currently working on the sorted 2001KO deck. Only done 100 sentences, but so far VERY smooth going; All sentences contain kanji you seen before, so VERY i+1. I've had problems with a couple of difficult sentences, e.g:

世界には科学で説明できない不思議な現象がたくさんある。

But for those i just suspended the card, and will come back to it when I've finished the deck. I'm going to do this for any really hard sentences, no point stressing on the first pass as that'll just make me not want to review/add more.

KO 2001 Kanji/Word progression - Bernkastel - 2010-01-24

Finally got the core 6000 sorted.
Here is the link http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3576220/core6000sorted.rar
Just import the .txt file in anki.

Note: This doesn't include keywords for vocab.

KO 2001 Kanji/Word progression - Nukemarine - 2010-01-24

Bern, thanks for the sorting. I noticed a slight problem. If the sentence has more advanced kanji that's not in the 2001KO list, then it's not placed at the end (treated as if it's kana).

騙す and 吊るす are the first couple of culprits here.

Perhaps a solution to that is include the entire RTK1 and 3 list that remains after the 2k1KO sort order.

http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AscWM0WNU3s4clgyWmdNZkZWZ2RyMHdXSXozcFRrelE&hl=en

The above is the Google spreadsheet for Kanken that are in RTK1 and 3. I added the KO2001 numbers to it. Only two will be missing (2001:々 and 1777:璧) since they're not in RTK1 or 3.

Why don't you just make a new list using the script?

If people are having trouble with the scripts on a premade deck, I can do the sorting. It'd just take me a minute to do it (easy on a linux system with pearl). Just email me with the deck and order, and all that. My only request is you share it here so I don't have to do it for everybody Big Grin

yeah the sort script doesn't know anything about kanji (or kana, or anything else for that matter), just whatever is in the sort order file

the current version will use only the first occurrence of a kanji in the sort order file though, so you can just append a complete list (a frequency list say, and no need to determine remainders) to the end if you want other kanji to be sorted later

Grinkers Wrote:I can do the sorting. It'd just take me a minute to do it (easy on a linux system with pearl).
it's even easier with perl though...

KO 2001 Kanji/Word progression - Nii87 - 2010-01-25

There was a script in there that actually generates a frequency list in the first place right? Could just use that.

I want to thank everyone who helped make and put up the sorted Core2000 file. I started it a few days ago and blew through the first 400 cards, about 90 of which were new words for me. The vocabulary/kanji progression is very smooth, far less frustrating than the random feel of the original Core2000. Between this, the UBJG spreadsheet, and the entire RetTK story bank, I owe everyone here a sandwich.

KO 2001 Kanji/Word progression - aphasiac - 2010-02-04

Hmm, 200 cards in to KO2001 and i'm burning out slightly. It's suddenly got harder, and I'm already getting sick of all these boring business terms. I am recognising many new words in the Japanese media I use, but at the same time all these stuff about exporting/importing raw mtaerials and goods..urgh, I'm never going to hear them in use..

Not sure I can keep this up for 3000 cards...but native media is still too hard, so kinda stuffed really..

EDIT: might try the sorted Core 2000 deck. Seems easier, and has pictures that give more context..

KO 2001 Kanji/Word progression - chameleoncoder - 2010-02-04

aphasiac: I found the same issue. After taking the advice of some very knowledgeable individuals on this forum I am now working my way through Core2k+Core6k vocab only (sorted by kanji frequency of course). The pace is much faster and I feel I'll be able to do true i+1 sentences afterwards once my vocab has increased. To soften things even further I took the 800 or so words in the list that use kana only and spaced them after every 5 words that contain kanji.

Hmm, interesting. I tried studying vocab out of context before, and found it tough - but then maybe with the Core 2000 images and more immersion it might work.
How many words are you learning per day? Any tips on studying them??

That sounds really neat! couldn't have a copy of your deck could I? Smile
