KO 2001 Kanji/Word progression - thurd - 2009-12-19

It's been a while since I reordered my deck and I can tell you now that it's great. I do more sentences each day, I finally got a habbit of doing sentences and I don't get frustrated all the time with stupidly impossible sentences.

It still does have some "hard" sentences but it's visible that this order is at least making some effort to use already known kanji.

@TaylorSan I don't have a mac so I can't help you with python there.

I have been trying to figure this out for two days now. Someone please help me. Cant any one send me the edited deck or give me step by step instructions? I would be soo grateful.

Thank you

What seems to be the problem?

KO 2001 Kanji/Word progression - mastermx - 2010-01-05

well my Ko2001 anki deck has 6208 sentences. sorted sentences only give me 3102. And also after I import, the full answer on the answer side is gone and sometimes its completely blank. Most importantly, after importing the sentences there is no japanese voice over reading it aloud to me.

Is there a way to get the ko2001 deck with all its nuances plus sorted into most efficient frequency?

Did you do the export and sort yourself, or use the pre-sorted deck? It sounds like the fields have been imported out of order as all of those things should work perfectly after import. Also, that many sentences sounds like maybe you had two cards for each sentence as it's about double what the original deck was. To get the cards back you would just need to make sure to export "facts" instead of "cards" and then after you import them again use the generate card function to repopulate the deck for the "production" cards. Since I only have the single card for each sentence I can't say for sure if that is the best way to get the second set of cards back, but it's what I would try in that situation.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for clearing things up. Now my deck has a total of 6368. Is that normal? And how can I be sure that anki will reveal sentences in accordance with the assortment? Ive chosen the setting as "show new cards in order added"

P.S. Now the audio plays itself twice, even when I'm on the next card.

Hi, can someone upload the sorting scripts again to somewhere like Megaupload? Rapidshare only allows 10 downloads, so the above link is not longer working.

I wonder why more people aren't using the sorted decks. It singlehandedly prevented me from getting sick of sentences.

Which version of the KO2001 deck did you sort?!

KO 2001 Kanji/Word progression - ninetimes - 2010-01-06

Appears to be the full one (image, text, sound links).

While thread necromancy is in effect -- has anybody run the sorting on Core2000? Or are there complications involved in that?

Excellent! Except the fields have been moved around, so I don't know how to import it *sigh*. This thread is soo complicated..

Now to finish Tae Kim..

O.K. I've also got mine sorted. But may I ask what has changed? I haven't noticed any change so far. Where can I go to see the order in which new cards will appear?

I have done the sorting on the Core2000 deck.

I think I posted somewhere else about it but I'll reiterate here. You have to make sure to import the full 2000 sentences first before doing the sort of course or you won't get the benefit with just the 200 at a time.

The altered order is incredibly beginner friendly. I would have to say that if someone has just completed RTK/Kana and wishes to pursue the sentence method, but has very limited vocabulary and grammar under their belt this is a superb path. While a complete beginner would have to lookup many many words for a while, the first sentences (after the sort) are very well suited to this as they contain many basic words. In fact, once sorted the first 20 sentences have no kanji whatsoever allowing a beginner to just get into the groove without feeling overwhelmed. Once the kanji do start, they start very slowly, and rarely have (for a while) more than a single kanji which really allows you to find your learning style.

I would certainly say that if someone was closer to the intermediate range, then look into the KO2001 sorted deck instead. However, if you've tried the KO2001 deck and it had way too much per sentence (a lot of unknown vocab in addition to the kanji) then maybe give the sorted Core2k deck a shot.

In study options, make sure you have selected "Show new cards in order added". You can see the new order by going to edit > Browse, and just looking through your deck.

I've just realised the new order is based on the frequency of *all the kanji* in that sentence. So The first sentence is:

家から会社まで1時間。いつも8時に家を出る.

If you check the kanji-freq list generated from the frequency.pl script, you'll see this is because 家, 会, 社, 時, 間, 時, 家 and 出 are all extremely frequent in 2001KO (all of them appear 150 times or more).

Same with next one: 中に入る時、IDカードを見せなければならない。, because 中, 入, 時 and 見 are high on the list.

Should make it easier overall, though would be nicer if they were sorted on number of kanji in the sentence also, to make everything even more i+1.

Just go to "browse" on your deck and make sure the sort order drop-down (far right) is set to "Created". Then on your study options page where you set how many kanji per session etc., just make sure it is set to show new cards in the order they were created.

The sorted deck should be drastically different than the original.

Sorry guys but im getting a little paranoid as to if i had done the import properly. I went to browse and chose to sort the deck via "created", I then scrolled to the top. I seem to have different results to Aphasiac.

Here is a picture of the deck: http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/738/ankideckko2001.jpg

That's the original 2001KO sentence order! Your sort definitely worked, because I'm using your sorted-sentences that you posted above! lol.

You sure you're importing the sorted text file, and not the original? Just delete all your cards, and import from the sorted sentences file again. But first, you have to make sure under Deck Properties > Model, the fields are in this order:
Field 1: KanjiText
Field 2: Vocab (new field, you have to add this one)
Field 3: KanaText
Field 4: Expression
Field 5: Meaning
Field 6: Reading
Field 7: PartReading
Field 8: Kanji
Field 9: Ref
Field 10: Audio

KO 2001 Kanji/Word progression - aphasiac - 2010-01-06

Actually when you import, NEW cards are created.

Your cards are showing a created date of "15-06-2009". That is not an imported deck, that's the original! Or maybe you didn't delete all of your original cards?

Wow, thank you so much for that clarification. I had no idea I had to edit the fields.

Here is the new deck: http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/2871/editeddeck.jpg

Is it ok?

KO 2001 Kanji/Word progression - aphasiac - 2010-01-06

Yep, that is the correct frequency-sorted order (confirmed by thurd on page 2 of this thread).

I assumed you must have rearranged the fields. How did you export and sort the deck? Weird..

KO 2001 Kanji/Word progression - mastermx - 2010-01-06

I deleted every single card. Then re-imported with the fields corrected.

EDIT: I just wanted to thank everyone who helped with the deck sorting. Its so much more relaxing and manageable now. It helps reinforce what you know and decreases the chance of burnout.

it's the same deal

[Image: ContribFugounashi?action=AttachFile&do=g...-small.png]

the purple line is unsorted, blue is sorted by frequency

KO 2001 Kanji/Word progression - ninetimes - 2010-01-07

Is that sorted via the kanji-frequency.pl run on the core2000 list?

Which is to say, this list?

If so, wow. That's a whole lot of å½¼.

My little linux box was giving me some grief earlier with perl so I'm just wanting to double check my results.

Editeditedit:

Man I'm all off base. I guess it's because I'm tired. I must be missing a step somewhere. I'm running kanji-freq on the exported core2000 deck (which has a few errors in it, for what its worth -- the one in the old iknow thread -- some filenames for images are the sentences and not a hash and that might throw some things off...). Then I'm running sort using that kanji-freq, but uh, upon closer examination, nothing is actually changing other than tab 0 tab 0 being appended to each row.

I admit ignorance for now and I'm going to go to bed, if there's any great advice I'll give it another swing in the morning.

Thanks!
