"Writing-Vocabulary"?

I saw this on my packet today. How did I miss that? I've been drilling the vocab, but not with production. Ack. RtK helps, but only so much.

Crap, now I have more work cut out for me. And I definitely need to bone up on my listening.

There is no real production. You just get a few questions asking which is the proper kanji to use in word X. It's a very minor part of the test.

That can be tougher than you think! Unless you know the vocab really well that is. Wont matter too much if it's only a small part though.

I'm on day 7 of my week long grammar binge. Started KM2kyuu last wednesday (or thursday??) Finishing it TODAY! Tomoz = doramaaa + practice test + maybe working through example problems in KM2kyuu for much needed practice. Smile

Can you really digest all of the 2級 grammar in a week? I've spent months and months studying grammar and a lot of it still hasn't sunk in.

i would imagine that you could digest enough grammar to read it on the test... but as far as using it yourself it would probably take a few months to settle in...

The voucher is nicer than I thought it'd be too. o.o
Just thinking about the voucher is making me nervous, nevermind the actual test! (changes margin of error on test from 10% to 20%)

My voucher for 2kyuu last year (in Canada) was... an email which I had to print out. Registration was online & payment by creditcard too. The process was so much more modern than in Japan.

You can add it all to anki in a week and be able to understand what it adds to the given sentence. Can I use any of it? Some if it yes! I'm finding there's quite a few things that have crept their way into my active Japanese knowledge which i'm super pleased about.
Obviously by the time the test comes around, given I will have also done practice tests, my familiarity with it will be 3x - 5x what it is now.

I think maybe because KO drilled all the level 3 and 4 stuff in and introduced a number of things from 2kyuu, picking it up hasn't been so hard. Especially because I'm using the dictionary of grammar deck which gets the meaning of the grammar across very fast to me. I think theres plenty of it that I will learn to use very quickly now and plenty of it that I probably won't learn to actually use for a long time. Might consider making a media library deck that I can just use as a searchable database and study some real usage of the points that way when I want to be able to nail them.

@captal: how have you been studying it?

Still waiting on my voucher for 2kyuu in Tokyo...

I also signed up for the practice test for the New JLPT (2010 format), on the premise that I may well fail 2kyuu this time around.... Any one else signed up for that? I think those vouchers are due out next week; at least, I haven't had that one either yet.

2級 voucher arrived a few days ago.

Gotta love the UK though - NOT! Only one site in London for around 60 million people in UK and they charge £70 (approx $US117). Fortunately i live in London but if you lived up north (with some of the most expensive rail prices in the world) it's is not a real incentive to take the test. God forbid you lived in Scotland.

Although they limit it to 1000 it's still not a bad days takings for doing basically bugger all. Would love to have the rights for that gig. Thieving baaastards.

You'd think they'd offer it 4 times a year for those prices. Why they don't is an absolute mystery to me. Is it really that hard to put the test together? If they can offer it twice a year in Japan now what's the issue with doing the same for overseas locations?

(and don't get me started on how it takes 4 months to get the results)

No wonder it's losing its relevance.

Just took the 1991 practice exam for JLPT2 and scored 58%. dun-dun-dahhh but with just under 2 weeks to go and practice exams to take, wrong answers + every word I don't know in those tests to SRS I should be able to bump that up to a passing grade!

Sorry to add to that disappointment, but you should try a newer test, 1991 is MUCH easier than more recent ones.

Yep, same impression here. The 1991 Lvl 1 test seemed almost too easy.

By the way, you know what sucks? Finding out about your weak points about.. now.

I really suck at reading, when there's no Kanji. That's what you get for not writing by hand a lot.

I always find with these sort of tests if you don't know the vocab, answering the question is guess work.

Lols. I practiced with the 2002 test, and thought I could give up when I listened to the dialogues. Not only had my recordings a few missing syllables.... *cough*, the reading speed was insane for me. But when I just started the 2006 file, it was about half the speed!
So I guess there is still hope for me.

Argh, the test is so soon and I haven't studied much for a while. I'm taking 2級. Got 70% on the 2004 paper so it looks like I could pass. I found the reading section was very slow going, but the kanji & listening are cake; grammar not so bad and that's the area where I can probably improve more in the short time remaining.

try Neil Fiore. Lucky me, I find this kinda fun and motivating (other than my university course).
But how good can you get in listening in 10 days....
What do I have to score in the other parts if I manage to get 0 points in listening? o_O
