New media to watch - any recommendations? - mattimus - 2009-10-22
I'm thinking about buying some movies from Yesasia to keep things mixed up (I've logged many, many hours of Jdramas and I could use something different). I figured it would be cool to have a thread where we could review Japanese versions of American movies (voice acting, accuracy of subtitles, etc.).
I've got my eye on:
1) Battlestar Galactica Season 2 (this seems to be the only season available in Japanese)
2) The Bourne Identity/Supremacy/Ultimatum
3) Rocky Balboa
4) Toy Story/Any Pixar movie
Does anyone own any of these, and/or have any movie reviews/recommendations?
*Edit - Also, warnings about movies/tv to avoid would be appropriate for this thread.

I got BSG Mini and Season 1 so it exists. The subtitles are not too far off the dubbing. Pretty good to get some Navy and Marine terminology.
All the Pixar movies were enjoyable that I got (Toy Story 1 and 2, Monsters, Inc, Cars, Incredibles). I do recommend these.
Most of my other dubbed movies went largely unwatched past the first time. Although I found the Harry Potter series (except 1 and 2 which I don't like even in English) to be enjoyable.
The thing that kills it for me is I still need Japanese subs to get better comprehension. Since the subs are usually way off what's been dubbed, it takes away from the story due to the distraction of it all.
