Anyone know if this is possible? You can download raw tv streams through bittorrent (.ts files) and they contain all the information that was broadcasted including subtitles? Would it be possible to extract the subs from them?

It seems like this program can do it: http://forum.videohelp.com/topic344243.html
*Edit* Apparently this program can do it too, http://www29.atwiki.jp/ccats/pages/13.html

I'm downloading a .TS file to try this out, will report back results.

right, maybe its not vobsub, but here's the page, i think... (actually i have no idea what its talking about, hope it makes sense to you)
If I had a 1seg tuner and lived in Japan I would do this =) However what I'm talking about is downloading the raw transport streams (You sometimes see the .ts files on bittorrent) and extracting the closed captions from them. The problem is that these files are about 2gb for a half hour episode =(

0.o It works! At least it does for Fairy Tail Episode 2. Using C-Cats I can export the Closed Captions as a HTML file. Now I just need to work out how to convert it into a subtitle format =D

Aha! There is an even more useful tool called Caption2Ass. It converts closed captions to .ass subtitles straight from the Transport Streams =D

As long as I can get a hold of .ts files for Fairy Tail, I'll be uploaded the resulting subtitle files. I wonder how many other shows broadcast with closed captions?

One little annoying thing is that the transport streams keep the adverts so to time it with other videos you need to retime them a bit with aegisub. Not too hard to do anyway.

For anyone interested, you can download the Caption2Ass tool here: http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?p=2373593#post2373593

Did you upload the Darker than Black episodes? Is this season also filled with Pizza Hut ads in every episode?

No, just the fairy tail one. I've never seen Darker than Black =/ Code Geass was full of Pizza Hut ads though.

Ahhh yes I can finally get my Nodame Cantabile subs. Where is a good place to get .ts files? I've never heard of them!

At 2gb an ep, I'm hoping they are ultra ultra high quality.

The problem is not all shows are broadcasted with closed captions. If you're lucky they will be =)

As to where to find .ts files.. They're pretty hard to find. Sometimes you can find them on http://nyaatorrents.org if you search for ".ts", but there aren't many and not many seeds. You could probably find more on share or pd, but I can't figure out what clusters to add =(
