Is it possible to study too much at a time?
I did 200 one day and it backfired on me. >.<;
Maybe I am being to harsh it was only the first review but usually I remember half of them easy.

Chances are if you have to ask the answer is yes (or no, if you're insane ^^).

If you only remember half of them usually, you should really take more time to study them properly, so do less in one day and take the time to really get to know them, so your pass rate is over 90%.

You might be learning new ones too fast. Based on using Japanese in this post, I assume you are onto sentences. How many are you doing a day?
20 a day is what I have been doing and it hasn't been too bad. Albeit I am only at about 320 or so total, but i usually have 40 to review a day. I think what happens is people forget to do sentences a few days then do double or triple a day to make up for it. That is crazy stuff and ends up screwing you over.
I don't look at the pass rate or any of that stuff. I just keep trucking along.

Hmm. it depends on the kanji. If they are abstract and the keyword is abstract they become difficult to visualize and usually require much longer learn. The heart kanjis for me took a long time to learn. Whilst others "especially the first 200" are really easy because most make some semantic sense and are easy to visualize. For me i tried doing a 100 a day. (I was on the heart section that time) it was really difficult and the time to success ratio was lower than if i had taken it a few kanji at a time.
Dont forget that also individual differences and the variety mnemonic stories affect the success of people differently.
