KO2001 or smart.fm core 10,000 after RTK1? - Kewickviper - 2009-09-20

I am getting closer to finishing RTK1 now finally and was wondering whether its best to do the smart.fm list of core Japanese sentences or to do KO2001? I don't really know that much about sentence mining and know pretty much no vocabulary so which one is the best suited to me? I am going to be doing Tae Kim's as well, is it ok to do sentence mining and grammar at the same time? Also which is the best method to study these two lists, Anki or using smart.fm's iKnow?

Any opinions or help on the matter are welcome.

Thank you.

I am not really doing iknow much anymore. I have been just going to the sentence page on lists I like and listening to the audio while I read the sentences. Then try to translate the sentence as a whole in my head rather than focusing on individual vocabulary.

I highly recommend the KO2001 lists over the random way the Core lists vocabulary is ordered though if you are going to do iknow:

If you're doing Tae Kim you're doing sentence mining and grammar at the same time are you not? I recommend generally focusing on one thing at a time and using other fun outlets to measure progress and learn a bit more passively.

I haven't used iKnow but I can highly recommend the KO deck with full audio. It will take you to the next level.

@mezbup: after I receive the KO books, how do I find the KO Anki deck w/ audio?

Thanks. I have a slight memory trace of some forum post discussing the removal of the furigana on the images of this deck. Am I remembering thing correctly?

it has furigana but I have no idea why you'd want to remove them? It only shows up on in answer to see if you read it right. If you had no furigana you'd have to do a dictionary lookup of every word you weren't 100% on every single time the card came up. The furigana only serves to see if you got the answer correct. Not to aid in reading.

Yeh, obviously that is good. I was under the impression the furigana was on the question. Thanks for the clarification!

Thanks for the replies guys! I guess I am doing sentence mining with Tae Kim's I didn't realize there was an Anki deck to go with it! It looks like its KO2001 for me when I finish!
