Where should I study in Japan? - thorstenu - 2009-09-14 Thanks for the insights on Osaka. My plan is to study over the next summer in Osaka, so I am relieved that it sounds like a great city with a not so problematic accent. But I wasn't that relieved after I heard how hot and humid it is in the summertime... so this could be another important factor for choosing your location. A major city where you can have lots of fun, and reading your posts and others' comments I've heard, I guess it's not a typical too big city where you feel alone. Besides, local people are used to foreigners so you can learn both standard Japanese and the local accent if you want. Sounds great, doesn't it? Where should I study in Japan? - captal - 2009-09-14 For sure! Fukuoka is a great place- the ramen here is the 名物 (as you likely know) and I love ramen! Speaking of, I haven't had any in like... 3 days! I better go and get some tonight. Fukuoka has a lot to offer, but it has been hard to make non-foreign friends here (like anywhere in Japan, it sounds like)- luckily I found a volleyball team to play my favorite pasttime with. I guess the only thing holding me down right now is being an ALT- I'm honestly sick of it (and I just passed my 1 year mark). I'm planning on heading back to Australia within 6 months or so, but don't take that as a vote against Fukuoka. |
