Ah, that is it! I was only trying the six channels I had saved. I just now went back to the Japan search page and there is a whole new list of channels with strong signals.

Is there a trick to getting tvants working on a mac? I downloaded the file in the first post and when I click on the install file it asks me to locate a program to run it...

Thanks.

That is what I am getting right now as well. It seems there is a different list of channels every day. Yesterday there were maybe ten channels

hi,

does anyone know a good (free?) program to edit those recorded asf files, e.g. cut out some interesting shows/parts. I tried avidemux which didn't work, virtual dub doesn't support asf, the microsoft tools didn't work either and so on...

ASF file's are only streams. They don't actually contain any video. You'd need to record the asf into another video format first (You can use vlc do this quite easily).

The ASF is some sort of container and concerning the recorded streams, it consists of wma2 for audio and wmv3 for video, not indexed by the way. As I just want to cut some parts out, transcoding shouldn't be necessary, or? It would only worsen the quality...

Have you already recorded to an ASF from TVants then? Try recording it into another format?

If not then you are trying to edit the live stream that TVants is creating... You'll need to record the part you want first...

Yeah, sorry for beeing unclear. I have recorded some gb of streams and i just want to cut out some special parts. As stated above, I think transcoding is the worst solution, as it would reduce the quality even more.

EDIT: The main problem concerning editing, is that the video is only a recorded stream... so there is no internal information about how many frames it has and so on. It would help if there is any tool out there, that could add these information. Unfortunately those proprietary Microsoft formats doesn't make it easier.

EDIT2: To be clearer, the video is not recorded, its just dumped. The asf with WMV3 is the "native" format.

Aha, I understand now =) One thing you could try is passing it through ffmpeg (e.g Convert with same quality and format), that normally adds information like indexing. If you do it right you shouldn't lose any quality.

If that doesn't work, then the only thing I can suggest is converting it to something else... If you keep the bitrate high you shouldn't lose much quality (but you'll get a big filesize)

Yeah about 3 or 4 days ago there were a few good Japan channels up with good audiences and quality like TV TOKYO, ASAHI FUJI TBS etc but now most are greyed out except NTV which seems to be on a loop? =( Not sure why most of those were published by XIDIAN but they are down now or something...
