Just downloaded TVAnts and it looks great, except that the connection almost doesn't work, I hopre it gets better in a while...

Anyway, in case anybody is interested, I found Toma-TV:

Here you'll find over 2000 free internet TV channels which is maintained and updated by the community each day. This is also the new home of the popular freeware program called JLC's Internet TV. So if you want to watch TV then click here!

So what is your favorite Japanese show from the available reliable channels (TV Fuji, TV Tokyo, TV Asashi, TBS, NTV) on TVAnts and what time/day does it start Japanese time?

So far so great with TVAnts--thanks! Had used Keyhole for awhile but it's hard to get motivated to have it on all the time--the sound and vid quality were middling, and the sound sync was always like 3-5 seconds behind, which made it harder to follow via simultaneous lip-reading and listening.

The sound is great, especially with headphones. In stereo!

As my Japanese isn't that good, I enjoy watching all those shows with "subtitles" on Fuji and TBS, despite the strange content most of the time. Understanding is more fun than content (I am normally not interested in TV) and those subtitles are really helpful to make a connection between words and the audio.
Unfortunately the send some repeating advertisements in the night, so I (at GMT+1) have to wait eagerly for the morning shows.

It was good as long as it lasted. Don't know why, but suddenly the big stations (tbs, tv fuji, tv tokyo,tv asahi....) stopped working, keeping their buffer at 0%. They are now greyed out on the channels list, too.
Would be a little bit strange if they started blocking German users just now.

Fortunately they started working here again. Does someone one know what the channel colors mean.. especially those greyed out channels?

[deleted] <- oops, guess I misjudged what bodhisamaya needs/wants - not drama times and descriptions

To answer my own question:
Quote:Channel display in grey text is either zero quality or no signal.

Sadly they stoped working again... no signal for the last 12 hours or so. Strange.

Yes, very sad. We have grown painfully addicted to fuji, 朝日 and TBS since we saw this thread a week ago. Hopefully they'll be online again soon. The sound and image-quality of Keyhole TV is now unbearable compared to TvAnts.

TVAnts down for two days now Sad
Anyone heard any news about when it might be back up?

how to see japanese tv - Codexus - 2009-09-13

It's working for me right now. Maybe you should try a different channel?

how to see japanese tv - jino123 - 2009-09-13

I'm watching fuji tv right now. It works for me...

how to see japanese tv - Tobberoth - 2009-09-13

Works fine for me too, did yesterday as well.

how to see japanese tv - bodhisamaya - 2009-09-13

OK, it is back up for me now too Smile

Update: It worked for a few minutes and has been down since. Not sure why. I just change internet providers. Maybe that has something to do with it.

There seems to be some sort of channel fluctuation... particular for japanese channels. After the old ones (quality ~340) stopped working, they needed some days to introduce new channels with the same broadcast stations but different quality (~400,16:10). In the meantime they had even Tv TBS-BS with superior quality (700). As I am not interested in specific shows, I started to record some sort of buffer to have something in case the channels are down again.
