Anki on Windows Mobile 6 - Jeromin - 2009-08-29

Apologies if this has been explained already, did a quick search and only found reference to netbooks and iPods. I got a Windows Mobile 6 phone ( though it's more of a mini PC, really ) and there only one application I really want: Anki! The actual program, not a web based solution.
Can it be done, and if so how. Step by step for dummies way, please.

I'm not sure if there is a port for windows mobile, but is there a python port for windows mobile? If so it wouldn't be to hard to make a simple app yourself.

*Edit*
Ah, there is: http://pythonce.sourceforge.net/

I have a windows mobile device too, I'll see if I can get this working.

*Edit 2*
Meh, I can get python to import anki, but it won't load any decks... =( Save up for http://openpandora.org to have the ultimate portable anki =D

Hey Jero. I just donated $50 to Damien (creator of anki) and along with the donation I said it would be great if he could make a windows mobile port. Here was his response:

Thanks for the donation! I really appreciate it. Re a windows mobile
port, not a lot of work is required, but unfortunately nobody with the
skills and a WM device has bothered yet. I imagine someone will come
along one day.

So as of now, there is no working version unfortunately, unless you want to write it yourself Wink

Thanks, very thoughtful of you. Yes, once I'm no longer broke, I will definitely make a donation. I have recommended Anki to friends studying foreign languages and they could not believe such polished piece of software was free.
I don't know programming, which is a pity, as I learned some Basic as a kid and found it came easy.
All the main platforms should support it really. No everybody wants or can afford an iPhone.

So does that mean Japanese text does work on Windows Mobile 6? I currently have a Blackberry Curve and Japanese does not work properly on it. I may be able to use a Windows Mobile-based HTC device if Japanese works ok on those.

At last, maybe some good news. I noticed this link on the anki website.

"Windows Mobile/Windows CE devices
There is experimental support for Windows Mobile documented here.
It is quite new, and will require some effort to set up."
