Comix looks really nice. Macbooks are AWESOME for reading manga/light novels - TaylorSan - 2009-09-06 I used Windows all my life, and bought a MacBook Pro a few weeks ago..... LOVE IT! I'm still getting used to/figuring out the thing, but it definitely is bad ass. I love the OS for the above posted reasons in this thread. The finger pad drag thing is sweet, and I don't think I'll ever go back to Windows. I'm thinking it might be nice to put in some kind of drag thing to replace fn/f8. I like the spaces thing, and found Hyperspaces so I could put different screen savers on each one, just for fun. I also just discovered you can drag applications from space to space, very cool. @chamcahm - I didn't know the dictionary included a Japanese one!?! This is awesome! Thanks for informing me, I'm still discovering new things about this 'lil guy (13"). Briefly glancing at it, it looks solid, but I'm a J-noob.....can anyone speak for the quality/origin of this dic? It also has a Japanese synonyms feature too. I have been using Jim Breen's, but heard via this forum it was not so good (not sure why...incorrect example sentences ?), and hadn't yet figured out a good alternative. I am still not at a J-J comfort level, and navigating all J websites makes me feel a bit overwhelmed. If this dictionary is quality, then perhaps this problem is solved! I think someone mentioned something about a pad you could write kanji in(?)... curious about how that works, and is used. I have a wacom pad, and would love to find a good way to use it with j studies, but I'm not sure how/if this would work. I apologize for my ignorance, it's just that I'm not very knowledgeable about computers in general, and what apps are out there. I really trust the experience of the koohii community, and so many of you know your computer shit (and how to apply it to studies)! I'm always in awe of this, but often feel a bit lost trying to understand what people are gabbing about. I'm also open to any suggestions mac users care to share in regard to good apps to implement in general. There's so much stuff out there, a little guidance would be appreciated. I haven't gotten into manga, but want to. Any suggestions, and a recommendation for a good comic reader for mac? I know there is a forum thread around here that covers that too..... Thanks for the thread, you gave me some good ideas on how to use spaces! Macbooks are AWESOME for reading manga/light novels - Jarvik7 - 2009-09-06 @Taylor: EDICT isn't very good as a dictionary because it's not a dictionary - it's a gloss. It's like looking up an English word you don't know by using a thesaurus instead of a dictionary. The dictionaries included with OSX are very good (though not THE best out there). They should be more than enough for most learners. You can't use your wacom pad for the 手書き input as far as I know - it only works using the touchpad. There is a youtube video linked somewhere that shows how to enable and use it. ComicBookLover seems to be the best comic reader for OSX. It is shareware though. Macbooks are AWESOME for reading manga/light novels - TaylorSan - 2009-09-06 Thanks for clarifying the EDICT issue for me Jarvik7. I think what I found valuable about it was that you can find entire expressions and such. And to me having audio is nice sometimes. But I have heard people say it can be flat out incorrect (if memory serves). ? Glad to hear the OSX dic is good. I was just now checking it out, and I like how you can switch between the different ones with a click. I did guess there were better ones out there, but this will serve my newbie ass for the time being, and I figure at some point navigating Japanese dictionaries/sites will be less intimidating (just need to put in the time to learn the right vocab I suppose). I can only speak for myself, but being a beginner and going to recommended sites in forum threads that are pure Japanese is a bit overwhelming, and the dictionary issue is something I have been trying to figure out. But seriously, NO EXCUSES! Suppose I'll check out 大辞泉....Somebody needs to make something for the wacom! And I must confess, I don't exactly know what shareware is (LOL at my own ignorance-I know, NO EXCUSES!). I am going on the "intranet" to edjumacate myself 'bout that right NOW! ありがとうございます! Macbooks are AWESOME for reading manga/light novels - TaylorSan - 2009-09-06 Ohhh....shareware....LOL! Ya learn somethin' new everyday! |
