Heisig interview - taijuando - 2009-08-25

This is an interview I did with Heisig. It's not a self-promotion. I should have edited this article better. What Heisig did and where he started with his language studies is inspirational and I thought I'd repost this since it's been a year or two or three and many new people have hopped on the Heisig train. http://www.kanjiclinic.com/riverainterview.htm

That's some awesome background info on the Heisig story. Really cool.

So typical the reaction received was "No, it's impossible that you are demonstrating what you are right in front of my very eyes. I see it but it's not happening and if it is happening, it still isn't happening because it can't happen. Go back to school."

Well, we haven't all been here for ages there old-timer. Wink

Thanks for the post. I think details like that should be in the book, personally.

Funny that Wieger's work influenced him. It's a great reference, although it's a little dated. But it's also one of the books on which Harbaugh based his Chinese Characters: An Etymology and Dictionary.

Heisig interview - taijuando - 2009-08-25

It's also like he did AJATT....he learned the kanji, he picked up some grammar and vocab from alfonso series...and then got away from it all in Nagano...what I didn't mention in the article is that after learning kanji...in addition to playing with a lot of kids he read comic books...I think young kids call them manga these days Smile

Heisig interview - taijuando - 2009-08-26

is Harbaugh useful?

Heisig interview - bflatnine - 2009-08-27

Finishing the book in a year or so or redoing it...
What I did, and what many of us did...I think it's the worse thing possible, especially for beginners that do only the book and listen to some japanese.
For me heisig is a good method only if it's done in 2 or 3 months, it's not a thing to waste time on,in fact I admire people who did all the book quickly
This is a situation applicable only for those that are doing only the book, not for people that are "studying" japanese

Heisig interview - CKBrown1000 - 2009-08-27

That article is inspiring.
