Japanese OS on a European cell-phone? - Zorlee - 2009-08-24

Hi everyone!
I really want to have a cell-phone with a Japanese OS (with the possibility to write the Alphabet / Romaji of course). I´ve searched around on the internet, but I´m not getting any smarter. I know that you can turn an iPhone into Japanese without any problems, but is this the only phone this is possible with? I mean, I have Arabic on my Sony Ericsson phone, but no Japanese? Come on!
I would really like to get an iPhone, but it´s out of my price-range at the moment. What other brands in Europe have Japanese as a choice? Recommendations for specific models would be highly appreciated (the cheaper the better, haha!) If there aren´t any phones with this possibility, is there some way to hack them / download additional software to them, for it to happen?

Thank you guys!
I use my cell-phone a lot, so it would be really great to have it in Japanese! =)

Buy a used 1st or 2nd generation iphone..

Android or wince based cellphones are another possible option.

They sell for a high price here in Norway, even for 2nd hand iPhones. But I´m always on the lookout, hopefully I can find a good deal.
When you say Andriod and Wince based mobiles, what exact models can I run a Japanese OS on? Can I buy any Windows Mobile based phone, and re-install the OS to the Japanese version? I´m sorry, I really don´t know much about this stuff, hehe!

I really don´t mind about the fancy functions, just a phone with a good calendar, with everything displayed in Japanese, instead of Norwegian/English =)

If you buy a windows mobile device, you could just download a Japanese Windows Mobile ROM and flash it. If that sounds too much, there are programs to convert the windows mobile environment to Japanese. Unfortunately, having done all that, you'll be stuck with a windows mobile device. If I remember correctly, installing the Japanese IME on WM6.2 gives you the Japanese locale option in language settings.

I had a Nokia 6500 and managed to change it to the Japanese firmware by editing the device ID code and tricking the Nokia updater software. I wrote a tutorial somewhere on these forums. You could do this with any phone sold in both Europe and Japan, but you would need to research this extensively first.
