I don't have either; are they complimentary in some way, or should I skip the original entirely in favor of this new release? Kanji Games for the Nintendo DS - jondesousa - 2007-10-05 ファブリス Wrote:The DS Lite should be fully compatible with the DS, it was a revision which improved, among other things the quality of the screen. Some shops might still sell the original version but you should buy the Lite one.ファブリスーさん - Thank you very much for the help. I really appreciate your suggestions. I am going to get a DS and a few of the games that you mentioned along with a Jiten software. Is there anything I need to save games on? I am really excited about using this. Thanks again. Jon Kanji Games for the Nintendo DS - synewave - 2007-10-05 Kieron Wrote:Looks interesting. The newer version is simply an improvement on the original! Unfortunately I don't have the new version yet ![]() JimmySeal Wrote:そ still comes up as と quite often though.I had this problem on the original too. But then I started to write my そs like a lot of the kids at my school do it. You know the 2 stroked そ、it works perfectly. Kanji Games for the Nintendo DS - Megaqwerty - 2007-10-05 jondesousa Wrote:Do you guys use a DS or a DS Lite? Are the games interchangeable between the two systems? The DS Lite has four backlight settings: bright, brighter, brightest, and death. In additional to being ludicrously sexy, the DSL has a stronger battery, so it's well worth whatever extra you might end up paying for it. Kanji Games for the Nintendo DS - JimmySeal - 2007-10-05 Kieron Wrote:Looks interesting. Pretty sure it contains all the questions the first one did, and at least for now, it's cheaper! I stopped playing my old Kanken DS as soon as I got the new one and I'm going to give it away to a friend today. synewave Wrote:I had this problem on the original too. But then I started to write my そs like a lot of the kids at my school do it. You know the 2 stroked そ、it works perfectly.Yea, I noticed I could do that to, but I just can't bring myself to do it. :/ Oh, and technically, the name of the game is 財団法人 日本漢字能力検定協会 公認 漢検DS2 + 常用漢字辞典. Gosh, they need to find less ridiculously long names for their video games. Is there anything I need to save games on? I am really excited about using this. Each original Nintendo DS cartridge has its own little memory chip, so there is no separate memory card to buy. Each game/software will let you save typically from 2 to 4 games. Most learning software give you 4 saving slots because there aren;t that much data to save but games like Zelda offers two slots, and some games even just one savegame. Kanji Games for the Nintendo DS - synewave - 2007-10-11 Picked up DS2 a couple of days ago. Not having to tap OK after twice after a question threw me for a bit! JimmySeal Wrote:There is a completely new, blocky font that isn't as attractive as the old one in my opinion, but is easier to read. While I agree that the font looks simpler, I noticed that "busy" characters look more like blobs of colour than proper kanji. Maybe it just takes a bit of getting used to. Kanji Games for the Nintendo DS - Kieron - 2007-10-11 JimmySeal Wrote:Oh, and technically, the name of the game is 財団法人 日本漢字能力検定協会 公認 漢検DS2 + 常用漢字辞典. Tokotan 2 comes out next month, with the full title of 財団法人日本漢字能力検定協会公式ソフト 250万人の漢検 新とことん漢字脳 47,000+常用漢字辞典 四字熟語辞典. The box alone drastically exceeds my reading ability! Kanji Games for the Nintendo DS - orochi - 2007-12-18 Tokoton is garbage. Go with Kanken DS. Kanji Games for the Nintendo DS - ファブリス - 2007-12-20 Interesting new title : 毎日新聞1000大ニュース ... I'm guessing not exactly beginner material *cough* Kanji Games for the Nintendo DS - revenantkioku - 2007-12-20 I got Kanken2 and the lack of something like a "Hey, you've studied every question in this section" marker bugs me. I'm a statistics and numbers whore, and hell without it I dunno if I should be spending more time on a level or not. Did pass the 10級 though. From there you can look at bar graph(left 達成率) statistics showing how much of the total material you have covered for each level, and pie chart stats(right 総合力) for how well you are doing on the different sections (reading, writing, etc.) of each level. Kanji Games for the Nintendo DS - revenantkioku - 2007-12-20 Aha! I didn't even think to look considering with Tokoton the status was given right next to each level. This is good news, though! Kanji Games for the Nintendo DS - jondesousa - 2007-12-20 Christoph Wrote:From the main menu go to the last section (green bar) 成績閲覧 then from there the left bar 漢字検定.Thanks a bunch for the tip. I also didn't know how to check my level. That is awesome. Kanji Games for the Nintendo DS - revenantkioku - 2007-12-21 I was a bit awestruck when I checked my progress only to see it at 12%! Kanji Games for the Nintendo DS - yukamina - 2007-12-21 I found a game for gameboy advance that quizzes you on reading kanji from gr1-6 It's called...Shikakui Atama wo Marukusuru Advance - Kanji Keisan Basically, it gives you a sentence and you pick the correct reading for the kanji or the correct kanji for the reading. It also gives a definition for each word being tested, no matter how simple(so that it ends up using more advanced words to describe simple ones). It's all in Japanese of course : ) I downloaded mine, I don't know if there's anywhere you could buy it... Kanji Games for the Nintendo DS - JimmySeal - 2007-12-21 I like the Tokoton progress reporting much more than that on Kanken DS. There's no way to figure out when you've answered all the questions in a particular section. But on the whole, I like Kanken DS2 quite a bit more than Tokoton. Haven't tried Tokoton 2 though. Kanji Games for the Nintendo DS - nac_est - 2007-12-25 I'm about to buy a DS and I'm thankful for your suggestions about those kanji games. I think I'll start with 漢検DS2, かきとりくん and 漢字そのまま. But other than those, I'd like to get a real game too, for generic practice. Someone suggested ゼルダの伝説 夢幻の砂時計 on another thread. Do you have other suggestions or comments? I'd like something fun, not too difficult (I'm at the JLPT ~3 level), possibly with furigana. I know this is the "kanji games" thread, but it probably isn't worth opening a new one just for this... Kanji Games for the Nintendo DS - laner36 - 2007-12-26 I just got the new Zelda for Christmas. I am surprised at how far I have gotten with my limited vocabulary (I just took the JLPT4). But it is still a bit more frustrating than I would like it to be. The furigana pops up when you touch a kanji but if you are off a little, it scrolls down to the next part of dialogue. All and all, it is quite fun but maybe too challenging (for me). Does anybody know where to find an English script or something for times when I get really stuck? I think I'll start with 漢検DS2, かきとりくん and 漢字そのまま.Yeay!!! I finally got my DS for Christmas and I got the games and dictionary that nac_est mentioned. They are awesome. I am quite excited to work with them. Unfortunately, it is back to work for the rest of the week. Hope everyone is having a great holiday. Kanji Games for the Nintendo DS - nac_est - 2007-12-26 Zelda seems to be the highest rated then. Are there other titles that you found interesting? Kanji Games for the Nintendo DS - aircawn - 2007-12-26 I've been playing through FF3 myself, and enjoying it. This style of turn-based game is new to me but it's been fun. The font's a little small so a couple of kanji are so messy it's hard to read, and furigana would have been nice as well. |
