FireFox Extension Kanjilish turns Characterizer - jaystarkey - 2009-08-18 I recently changed the name to Characterizer (since it now supports Chinese, too, I thought it more fitting). I didn't realize there was such lively debate over Kanjilish: http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?tid=2865&page=1 Anyone interested in doing a randomized trial? 10 people use it for 2 weeks, 10 people refrain from using it it for 2 weeks, then do a pre and post trial kanji recognition assessment? Then I could say if it is helpful or not with some confidence ;-) Just kidding about the randomized trial, I'm way to busy for that. But if you are interested in studying characters even when you read English, Characterizer might be a nice FireFox addon for you! https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7208 FireFox Extension Kanjilish turns Characterizer - vrtgo - 2009-08-18 Kanjilish was forever causing java-script errors and slowing Firefox to a snail's pace, so I had to uninstall. Not sure why that was happening. My guess is b/c I'm running OS X. Wanted to keep it, though. Cleaning up the code so it doesn't hang would be a big help. Also, getting it to kanji-fy plural nouns and conjugated verbs would increase its effectiveness, I think. While I did keep Kanjilish running, it helped me remember Heisig's keywords -- especially the commonest ones. Sorry if that sounded harsh. Kanjilish/Characterizer really is a great idea, and can be helpful, too. ^_^ FireFox Extension Kanjilish turns Characterizer - battlehymnz - 2010-10-15 Sorry to bump up such an old thread, but I didn't want to make a new one since this one already exists. I found out about Characterizer today, but since I have a newer version of Fx, it wouldn't install. I decided to download the XPI package and just modify the install.rdf so that it will work for newer versions. I tested it out and it works fine, so if anyone wants this addon, you can download the XPI here. Just open it with Firefox and it will install like a normal addon. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HNFD0EE0 |
