Daily schedule? - greenplate - 2009-08-14 Hi all, I was wondering if you could put a general (hourly? 30-minutely?) timeline of your daily schedule, since after I do my reviews and add cards, I seem to not know what else to do with the rest of my time. Thanks. Daily schedule? - sup3rbon - 2009-08-14 After you're done reviewing and adding cards you're pretty much free in terms of what you have to do. Watch some japanese shows or listen to some japanese music if you wanna keep exposing yourself to japanese. Unless of course, you're not studying the cards you add as you add them, then you should maybe study those cards. Daily schedule? - wildweathel - 2009-08-14 I abhor schedules, so I don't even try to stick to one. Instead, I keep some rules of thumb: 1) I allow myself to play Japanese media at any time. I keep my digital audio player and headphones by my bed, so that usually the first thing I turn on. At my computer, I usually have some TV show or other playing. (今は鋼の錬金術師 第25話) Maybe the video will be on screen, maybe not. (I see why Khatz uses multiple screens.) I turn it off when reading or doing SRS reps in Japanese; otherwise it's too distracting. 2) I may do SRS reps at any time, and I try to do at least 15 minutes a day--though I haven't had any problem with motivation here. 3) I only allow myself to add/enable cards if I've reviewed both of my decks to the "Congratulations" at least once since waking up. (Currently, Core 2000 is segregated into another deck.) This prevents me from getting too carried away. In practical terms, I usually finish fairly early in the morning since I SRS with breakfast. After that, it's reading and listening. Sometimes I go in depth, looking stuff up in Sanseido (I suck, so I use the dictionary backwards: normally, you enter a word you don't know and get a definition you understand. Currently, I enter a word I know and get a bunch I don't.) Sometimes I just use Anki's search function to enable easy-looking sentences with words I hear or see. (Mostly what I read, my listening's absolutely awful). Or to say it simply, once you're done with reviews, just have fun. Add cards as you like. Maybe do some formal study. Maybe not. Daily schedule? - oregum - 2009-08-14 I don't have a strict schedule, because of other obligations. But I aim for about 4 hours of active study per day. 2 hours - review failed/expired/new cards 2 hours - add new cards Passive study, is whenever Japanese. Listen to Jpod, watch things, etc. It is estimated that it should take 2200 hours of active study to become functionally fluent in Japanese. Based on the ILR scale level 3. I hope to reach this level before August 2010. http://www.govtilr.org/ Daily schedule? - mezbup - 2009-08-14 If you're studying rtk, do x amount of reviews and then add x amount of new cards. Work it so that by the time you're review pile gets to 0 you've also added all you're new cards for the day. You could even add a few more new cards or just do some fun stuff. Relax and enjoy yourself, in Japanese. Don't wait til you have all of your reviews done before you start adding. It's a real motivation killer and it'll slow you down. Daily schedule? - Tobberoth - 2009-08-14 When doing RtK: * Do ALL of my reviews (usually in the morning or around midday) * Once I'm done with ALL of them, I clear my failed pile. * Once I've cleared my failed pile, I may add new cards (usually in the evening) * The next day, I review my new cards before starting my reviews. The important thing is to never let failed cards build up, always finish your daily reviews and always let some time pass before adding new cards and reviewing them. Right now: * Finish my Japanese sentences reviews. * Finish my RtK reviews. * Add new Japanese sentences. * Add new kanji cards IF a sentence contained a kanji not contained in RtK1. * Wait until next day before I review the decks again. I never review new items the same day, once I've added new material, I usually consider my deck "closed" until next day. I also keep my habit of ALWAYS finishing my reviews before I add new stuff. Daily schedule? - vosmiura - 2009-08-14 Review half an hour, add new cards half an hour, read RevTK for 2 hours. Sad, but sometimes true.
