My own version of the '100 a day' - Ryuujin27 - 2009-08-11 So I've decided to do 100 a day and see how I can do. I've also realized that if I write about it here, it'll be extra motivation to keep going when it gets hard. Here's a little backstory: I've been trying to complete RtK on and off for 2 years now >_<. It really makes me mad when I think of all the time I've wasted on it, but oh well. Luckily I've kept other Japanese studies going in this time, so the time wasn't a total waste. Now, however, I want to be finished with it. Recently, I had a problem with anki when I switched computers or something, and as it turns out, I haven't reviewed about the first 1000 of the book for over 10 months. So, instead of torturing myself with failed cards, I decided to just start fresh. So that's what I did 2 days ago now, and so far it is going great. So now here will be my account of the days I spend doing this. Day 1 Felt full of resolve, and was quite pleased to open the book and promptly skip the first chapter ;-) I continued to go on and complete the first 100 in about 25 minutes. I was quite happy that the first bit was at least going to be really easy. Day 2 Reviewed the first 100 - 100% retention Went on to do about 70 during that morning. Took perhaps 20 minutes again. Had to really work on a few here. Reviewed these later that night - 100% After that, studying a few grammar points from a different book, then went back to kanji and completed another 30 or so, putting me to frame 205 I believe. Reviewed them just a moment ago and had 100% retention again. I'm trying an experiment with these early ones, and instead of hitting hard the first time and reviewing them again a few hours later, I am just hitting good and setting them for 3-5 days into the future. This will allow me faster (which I plan to speed to maybe 150) learning in the beginning, where they are so easy for me, as well as less stress. Sure, they will catch up to me, but I plan to incorporate that "New way to SRS" thread into this, as well as breaks to study other aspects of Japanese. Day 3 Did another 100 today, and retention rate is still 100%, though I have yet to start encountering any cards to study more than once... so we'll see how that turns out. Day 4 Encountered a road block in the form of a friend I haven't seen in a while coming to visit. Only did 50 today. I plan to make up for this at some point by doing 150. I also plan that when I have some more free time than I currently do to try to up the 100 to 150 or so anyway. But reviews were still 100% My own version of the '100 a day' - Artemisk - 2009-08-13 People have gotten away with 100 a day before, I know you can do it! I'll be keeping up with this topic to see how you do . And also to motivate myself to finish faster! Best of luck to you!
My own version of the '100 a day' - isharabash - 2009-08-19 I didn't read the beginning blurb until after I read 100 kanji in 25 minutes... I almost cried. My own version of the '100 a day' - thurd - 2009-08-19 To the OP: It's almost a week since your last post and I wonder if you're still doing your 100 a day?
My own version of the '100 a day' - Artemisk - 2009-08-20 True, I was wondering this too, perhaps Ryuujin is too busy studying :/ After all 100 a day is no easy task I wouldn't doubt that he has no time to post since he has his own life outside of Japanese . I barely do one lesson a day but I still stick with it none the less >:3 Almost done too
My own version of the '100 a day' - Tzadeck - 2009-08-20 In solidarity with Ryuujin27, I did 100 kanji today. 1779-1879. Actually, it's really just because I'm itching to finish the book as I approach the finish. By Sunday I shall finish! I can't imagine doing 100 a day every day. It took literally all day. |
