Korean Learning Resources - yukamina - 2009-08-05

This topic was brought up in the Hangul typing thread, but I thought it deserved it's own thread.
So lets share good sites and learning resources for Korean.

Here are some sites I've used and liked:

Grammar
Japanese site for Korean grammar (watch out for the typos!) http://www5d.biglobe.ne.jp/~ragna/gottani/basic/basic_top.htm
Very basic grammar http://www.learnkoreanlanguage.com/learn-korean-beginners.html

Vocabulary/Hanja
Vocabulary lists read out loud in English and Korean http://www.wordshowers.com/
Some basics and vocab lists http://hangulforest.com/index_e.htm and in Japanese http://hangulforest.com/gram.htm
Basic Hanja with some examples http://www.learnkorean.com/home/index.asp

Dictionaries
Yahoo! dictionary E-K J-K K-K http://kr.dic.yahoo.com/search/eng/
A Korean Hanja dictionary http://www.zonmal.com/

Reading
Children's Bible stories http://www.bibleforchildren.org/languages/korean/stories.php
The Little Prince http://angela.rootda.org/novel/littleprince/1p.htm
Korean song lyrics and videos with Jpn translations http://aqua120.blog105.fc2.com/

Courses
Beginner's Korean [book]
Intermediate textbook with grammar http://www.language.berkeley.edu/korean/10/main.html

I have a ton of other sites too that either I didn't like or haven't taken a look at. I can add those too if anyone wants.

Thanks for the resources. I don't need to look at any of this stuff right now but I'm glad to know it is here.

Korean Learning Resources - thatkidpercy - 2009-08-05

the japanese site you linked that explains korean grammar looks useful! i'm trying to learn some korean at the moment through japanese (as the grammar is so similar in a lot of respects) so i'm sure that'll be handy.

i personally use the jp/kr dictionary provided on naver : http://jpdic.naver.com as it usually provides useful example phrases, and can even usually understand conjugated verbs and show the corresponding japanese.

this site is nice for learning basic vocab: http://www.indiana.edu/~koreanrs/kordic.html (korean/english)

although not complete, the verb tables at http://busyatom-koreangrammar.blogspot.com/ really helped me get to grips with the differing verb endings

i'm still an absolute beginner so that's about it for now.

Anyone have vocab lists (with definitions) for TOPIK or KLPT for conversion to an anki deck?

Korean Learning Resources - yukamina - 2009-08-06

Are there any KLPT resources online?

Korean Learning Resources - nest0r - 2009-12-05

Klaatu. .. Verada. .. Necktie...Nectar...Nickel...

Anyway, here's a bit of necromancy, the thread resurrected. Any new updates on Korean self-study resources? It will be ages before I start learning it, but just thought I'd do my part in keeping the momentum going here at RevTK...

Found this the other day, seems like it's pretty good:

Korean Learning Resources - yukamina - 2009-12-05

I have a whole bunch of other links, I just don't find them very useful...

Korean Learning Resources - nest0r - 2009-12-05

http://d-addicts.com/forum/subtitles.php#Korean - Korean subtitles for kdramas.

I really hope the recent love for Kpop and whatnot leads to more and more study materials.
I've been so spoiled with japanese...we have everything.

http://bonewso.net/koreangrammar/tiki-index.php

Really good site for grammar, especially if it's more on the intermediate side. Smile

It's the closest thing I've found to a Korean/K-drama version of DramaNote.

I have loads of other links, but I obviously won't post them all. The above are the sites I use the most. If you want me to find something for you, don't hesitate to ask ^^

As others have said, Naver is a god-send. You'll find anything and everything there. It's like the whole internet in one website ㅋㅋㅋ

Korean Learning Resources - yukamina - 2010-04-30

Those are awesome links, thanks Squintox!
Do you have anything else like the kids stories? Simple language + audio(and transcript)?

죄송합니다! Sorry for the late reply.

What sort of sites? I can find them for you. But I don't have anything else with simple language and audio >.<

Korean Learning Resources - yukamina - 2010-05-14

Well, I can't think of anything in particular. I've been searching off and on for audiobooks with no success, but I can't really read Korean so it's hard to look! So if you know any audiobooks, or basically something with audio and a transcript, that would be great.

Or maybe Korean sites about anime, manga, art, etc.

Korean Learning Resources - bindasj - 2010-05-16

Really recommend the University of Hawaii books. You can get the audio for the books free here http://www.hawaii.edu/uhpress/mp3/klear/ but you'd need to have the books to see the transcript of the audio.

I do have some Japanese sites for Korean I frequent, but if you’re starting out from learning Hangul, do *not* use a Japanese site for learning pronunciation. They will give you semi-equivalent Japanese sounds that significantly alter the original pronunciation. That being said I did find some videos on youtube, teaching the basics of hangul, here’s the playlist: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=0ADF8A6463E4B2BE

Parksguide, as Ryuujin mentioned, is a very good grammar resource- very tidy and nicely organised. It’s not exactly a Tae Kim equivalent, but it’s good for that beginning phase when you need a few tips to understand what you’re putting into your Anki deck etc. He has compiled a pdf of his lessons here: http://mjump7.googlepages.com/KoreanGrammar.pdf

Moving on to audio, here are some resources I find useful- thanks to Kevin Manley over at learnkorean.ning.com and James Devereux from Korean As It Is.
James has provided some audio/video content with scripts (stuff from Korean blogs or TV) so go check it out. It’s not exactly for absolute beginners though.
http://koreanasitis.wordpress.com/category/korean-resources/

There’s also:
http://learnkorean.ning.com/forum/topics/listening-material-tedtalks
http://study.korean.net/edutain/drama/drama_v2.jsp?d_type=se (clips from dramas with scripts)
Talk To Me In Korean have also started their Intermediate course, lessons are all-Korean, with transcripts.

Other multimedia sites:
http://www.coelang.tufs.ac.jp/modules/ko/index.html
http://www.language.berkeley.edu/Korean/10/index.htm
http://english.kg21.net/korean/Learn_List.jsp
(You can just pick a less annoying one and stick to that)

On dictionaries, well Naver isn’t my favourite but it’s one of the few that will allow copy-paste.

The subject of subtitles dampens my enthusiasm. The .smi extension is used almost ubiquitously, and subs2srs can’t parse it.. I heard that on windows you can convert the file to .sub, but on a mac I’m stuck. I can however recommend Chroma Player for watching films with Korean subs (on a mac).
