I thought I've heard of something like this before. Is there a tool where I can put in a list of words, and then have it automatically download the first result from google image search for each word?

I'm thinking of starting a vocabulary deck using images, but I am far too lazy to actually search for and download images.

That's a really good question. I see a lot of programs that will download a lot of images for one word, but not one that will just get one image from a list of words.

I suppose this would be sort of like the image version of DictScrape, huh? XD

One of the nice things about Google Image Search is that if you use Advanced Search, you can also filter images by license, if you're picky about that sort of thing. (So you can have just CC images or whatever.)

Maybe one of our prolific programmers could bang something together?

I was actually going to post something very similar to this. I think it would be really good to have an anki plugin that incorporates something like this, i.e. you could isolate a word on your card and it brings up a google image for you. I don't know how technical this would be though and I definitely don't have the capabilities to do it.

I was checking into programming something like this yesterday, it seems really complicated though. First of all, if you hook into the available APIs, its not free. For google, they give you 100 search queries per day, after which you have to pay. For bing, I think it was something like 5000 per month for free. Though most of the help I was able to find on either of them relied on old APIs, so I ended up giving up in frustration.

There is an anki plugin that does something similar to this... it's called "imagedownload" i think. You still have to pick the image, but the search is automated...

I'm actually thinking about adding this to DictScrape, because I like having images for my cards. (This will probably come after EPWing support, though.)
