Games with a LOT of reading and audio. - mezbup - 2009-07-23 Lately i've been playing a lot of games that consist entirely of reading with spoken audio for pretty much everything that's said. I'm finding this a really fun way to learn! Especially since things I look up get repeated a hell of a lot and the same grammatical patterns are repeated over and over on a regular basis with varying different things thrown in when special subjects come up. I realize that it's "game" speak with "game/anime" style voices and not "natural" conversation/accents so i'm ignoring those aspects of it and taking away the useful things from like vocab and grammar. Another cool thing is because the voice actors say everything written on the screen, I read along with it and i'm finding that im picking up new readings without having to look EVERYthing up. (I only look up things that I see repeated at least 3 times and them i'm like, Ok, I HAVE to know this *looks up*). The games I've got like this are... Strawberry Panic (PS2) Chaos Head (PC) Fate Stay Night (PC) Air (PSP) Air (PS2) School Rumble (PSP) I was wondering if anyone else has, plays or can recommend any other similar games that are fun/good? NB: before anyone decides to lecture me on learning from different sources, I use plenty of other learning resources! (This one's just mega fun!) Games with a LOT of reading and audio. - activeaero - 2009-07-23 Available for Saturn, PS1 (and therefore PSP), 3DO, and PC engine. Arguably one of the best video game stories ever made by those that have played and understood it. It is an adventure game style with tons of dialog. Games with a LOT of reading and audio. - QuackingShoe - 2009-07-24 I've been a fan of using visual novels for awhile, but I haven't actually used too many of them so far. The ones I've played are pretty much on your list, or are blatantly ero and I won't admit to the titles ![]() Still, if you've already played Air (twice, apparently), I might as well suggest jumping off to Kanon and Clannad. I was also interested in a game called Little Busters, but haven't played it. Hmm... I should look back into all this stuff. If you can do without the audio, the 逆転裁判 series for the GBA or DS is well-loved, and I recently found a little murder mystery for the SNES called かまいたちの夜 that I enjoy. Although i've seen the Air Tv anime like... twice? And it's one of mah favesss. Have only touched on the PSP version though. Can't play too many at once! Although can't wait to play it... and yeah im getting Kanon for PSP as we speak, cant wait to play that one either
Games with a LOT of reading and audio. - Jaunty - 2009-07-24 I strongly recommend the 逆転裁判 series for DS (called Phoenix Wright in the US). I played the English versions in college and they're hilarious. It's basically an interactive mystery story with lots of over the top characters and courtroom drama, haha. It's pretty much non-stop reading and the stories cover a broad range of subjects so it's widely applicable dialogue rather than "game speak". I haven't actually played through the Japanese version as I'm still in the middle of RtK, but I plan on trying it after I work through Kanji Odyssey and review some grammar. Edit: Sorry, I didn't notice QuackingShoe recommended this too - I second it then, hah Games with a LOT of reading and audio. - Tobberoth - 2009-07-24 Wow, there's a School Rumble game for PSP? I'm so downloading that. Games with a LOT of reading and audio. - mezbup - 2009-07-24 Tobberoth Wrote:Wow, there's a School Rumble game for PSP? I'm so downloading that.Hell Yeah!
