I've never understood these massive collections people have. Then again, I have bare walls and no real decorations...lol

No one from revtk is like this right? (pleaseeee) - Evil_Dragon - 2009-07-20

No. I enjoy Mangas, Animes, Games etc. just like most people around here do (I guess..). But I just do not see how posters, figurines and stuff like that can be appealing. The moment I start to enjoy just putting stuff in my closet I will officially consider myself braindead.

Figurines make me cringe. Humbug!

That's really sad.

The guy that lived in my apartment in Boston before me had it decorated like that (he was Japanese). I went in to see it since I was subletting it. It was kinda scary.

This is a great opportunity for us to learn this word together: OTAKU!

haha, the biggest thing I couldn't understand with that is putting that much money into that kind of thing, to me it wouldn't be very satisfying, but you know what if these people really enjoy collecting, then that's a great thing I think. At least they found something self-fulfilling to do, but the fear I have is a lot the people doing this are just obsessive haha.

No one from revtk is like this right? (pleaseeee) - QuackingShoe - 2009-07-20

No, but, mm, I don't really see the problem with it. As it happens, I do have a few posters and figurines, but none of them relate to anime - I have a couple Final Fantasy figurines that were gifts.

I mean, the stuff is kinda fun to have. If expense and cultural stigma weren't an issue, I'd probably enjoy it.

No one from revtk is like this right? (pleaseeee) - yukkuri_kame - 2009-07-20

I like to collect money. No, I won't post any pictures or where I live.

Screw stigma, I want.

Can't afford Sad

pointless consumerism ftw

99.9% chance these guys with anime girls wall to wall, on their sheets and chair cushion have no girlfriends in real life as a result. Fantasy is better than reality I suppose.

No one from revtk is like this right? (pleaseeee) - strugglebunny - 2009-07-21

Its ridiculous, but if you befriend someone like that, you probably will never have to buy a video game, manga, or movie (well, anime at least), ever again. Of course, I can only speculate on how easy these types of people are to get a long with...

No one from revtk is like this right? (pleaseeee) - Jarvik7 - 2009-07-21

Those people probably not only hate pirates/"sharers", they probably buy 2 of everything: one to keep sealed and one to use.

To be fair, there's plenty of sports nerds out there. These are the morons that talk like they were playing the game "Yeah, we had the ball on the 5 yard line. If only the coach had us run it in"; have their walls covered with sports stuff; dress up with body paint for a game; wear that freaking sports jersey more times than Brett Farve (sp?) does; etc.

There are nerds in all walks of life. They are doing with their time what they find enjoyable. Probably more a case of silicon based dwellings and smoothed crystalline projectiles.

Any sports nerd who has that amount of collector's items also needs help.

Sports nerds tend to be a lot more social though.

disclaimer: I am neither a sports nerd nor an anime nerd. At best you could call me a language nerd.

I was thinking of lending and sharing, not pirating, but you're probably right. They would probably never let anyone get their grubby, oily, fingers on their 1st run, mint condition, Cardcaptor Sakura #1, by God!

Hell Yes to language nerds, we are such popular guys/girls, everybody talks about how cool we are! They talk about our software, they're all like " damn, did you see how many items that guy had in his SRS! he is such a cool person, I wonder how many Kanji he could write if I showed him the keyword!?"

haha

No. True otakus buy three of everything: one to keep sealed, one for personal use, and one to use as a bible when engaging in missionary work. Look up こなた買い in moedic.

Those collections are ... astonishingly large.
To each their own obsession, right?
We collect kanji and sentences, they collect things ...
At least our things are usable, and have a one to one correspondence with knowledge, something you can take with you anywhere.

This is a ***** good point, they also memorize the names of EVERY player on Every local team...WTF waste of memory space if you ask me

I feel like the non-Japanese 'otaku' give people interested in Japanese culture and language a bad name and reputation. We're tarred with the same brush as the obsessives.

That said, I do like Danny Choo, he's a good blogger.
