I like my Mac and still love its, imo, unmatchable aesthetics, factor which is as important as functionality for me. But I am just so not digging the new Mountain Lion. All the focus on Facebook and Twitter integration, slight overflow of options, garbage like game center, I liked it more when it was simpler.

Is there any way you can downgrade your OS then?

I am not digging Mountain Lion - turvy - 2012-07-25

Lol, I haven't actually upgraded yet. 'Was just looking at the vids and the buzz about the launch.

Yeah, the upgrade doesn't really excite me either. Google chrome and spaces is all I need to be happy. ^^

I am starting to think so too but it's complicated.

I've heard mainly positive reviews about it, from people who complained Lion was buggy and not really worth upgrading for. I don't care about Facebook or Twitter but you don't have to sign up into them I suppose?

Either way I'll probably get the Mountain Lion discs (or USB key?) when I upgrade my iMac hopefully before October >_>

I'm still on 10.6.8 from my macbook from 2007.
The 10.7 machine I use at work bothers me...

I'm behind the times Smile

Oh good! At least you didn't waste money on something you turned out not to like. I've done that a few times. ^^;

Mountain Lion updated the native Japanese-Japanese dictionary and it now includes pitch accent information (and I assume more content). It's sweet.

Other than that it seems basically the same (i.e. not overwhelmed by new facebook or whatever features intruding on my experience at all), and maybe even a bit faster/smoother. No complaints.

Notifications is cool, though it's already supported by Growl, it's nice to have it as an OS feature. Looking forward to spam it with my bash scripts :p (I'm currently using the voice command for my site update scripts... pretty funny.. I have the "Victoria" voice saying "Uploading" ... "Completed!" Smile).

Code:
say -v Victoria "Site update completed\! Good jorb\!  Have a cookie\!"
I suppose Mirrorring is quite nice to playback movies or even YouTube if you have the Apple TV box.

Totally agree. I think Mountain Lion's go to feature for language learners is going to be AirPlay mirroring. It offers a dead simple way to get your video from your computer to your tv.

Wow, that's pretty good.

I agree. I don't get all the praise that Lion and ML got. It's so amazing, only 30$! Yeah, I could buy a nice meal with that... or a bunch of games on steam. At least, it's only 20$ this time. I upgraded from Snow Leopard just not to be too much behind the times. And because XCode refuses to install on Snow Leopard, which is plain silly.

Anyway, I'm annoyed that they put the useless notification center in the top right corner. And there's no way to put spotlight back in place. Other than that, I haven't noticed too many differences. I like the updated look and mission control isn't too bad, though it will take some time getting used to.

I think Turvy is the only sane person here. The dictionary updates are pretty amazing. They now have conversational categorization, pitch accent, 使え分け info... This is a local, no-internet, awesome, J-J and J-E dictionary suite. Worth 20 bucks imho.

I started using it yesterday - upgraded just so I can stay up to date with everything - and honestly none of the new features are annoying at all. Mostly there are just small improvements to the already-excellent OS, for example being able to airdrop a document directly from various apps, dictate into any text field, etc.

I hadn't even noticed Twitter or Facebook integration.

There's just a categorization that specifically marks conversational examples for certain words. There's a lot of subtle but useful features and information -- I think it's great and very useful, especially because it's fast, fluid, internally hyperlinked, easy to switch between J-J and J-E and you don't need an internet connection (to reiterate).

Also, I just noticed that there's a dictionary folder you can access and a file (or something) called "ユーザ辞書" so maybe there's a way to get your own dictionaries integrated...

Well, in the end I did upgrade to Mountain Lion.

So, about the new Japanese dictionary:
▸ 「それで君はそのテニスクラブに行って楽しかったというわけだね」「ええ,だからいつかまた行きたいわ」
“So you enjoyed going to the tennis club.” “↘Yes and I'd like to go ↘again, sometime.”

What do the arrows mean? Tones?. And where is the "how to use" page describing the meaning of all these symbols and marks in the dictionary?.
