JLPT 2009-1 (July) 2級 thoughts - potempkin - 2009-07-06 I'm wondering what people thought of the July JLPT, which was administered on Sunday only in Japan. Personally, I thought that the test was much more difficult than any of the past JLPTs (this was my 4th attempt to pass). My score on the December 2008 test was only 197 (out of the needed 240). I've been studying my ass off for the last 10 months, but felt my chances of passing Sunday's test were hit or miss. After the test, I felt quite deflated. Each of the sections, particularly the kanji/vocab seemed much more difficult than the 2005 or 2006 exams which I had done as practice. When I finally got some time the same evening, I took the full 2007 exam to see how well I fared. My score from the real exam in 2007, was an embarrassing 156 (43/59/54). Totally up my score just now: writing/vocab: 74 listening: 93 reading/grammar: 87 That's a 254. Much better than my in-person 2007 attempt, and better than my 2008 attempt, but...considering how I felt 2009-1 went, I'm skeptical that I passed. JLPT 2009-1 (July) 2級 thoughts - avparker - 2009-07-06 I also took the test on Sunday in Tokyo. It was my first attempt at 2級 (other than practice). It was a bit harder than I was expecting (and hoping for). I thought the reading comprehension was very hard, the passages were really long and the questions seemed very hard. I also found the first part of the listening quite hard. That was my best part in the practice exam I did a while ago, but a couple of questions I just had no clue about. The other sections seemed about what I was expecting, but not easy by any stretch of the imagination. Overall I'm not really sure I passed, even if I did I doubt I'll get much over 65%. For comparison, I did the 2006 test last Wednesday for practice, and got 75% for the Kanji/Vocab and 67% for Reading/Grammar, and had previously got 80+% on the 2003 listening section a couple of months ago, so going in I thought I had a pretty good chance at passing. JLPT 2009-1 (July) 2級 thoughts - captal - 2009-07-06 My friend took it and said he ran out of time on the reading/grammar section and had to randomly fill in the last 8. I think those are the ones worth the most too. He gave it 50/50 on passing. JLPT 2009-1 (July) 2級 thoughts - yukamina - 2009-07-06 When you guys take practice tests, are they ones that you've bought, or is there somewhere you can test yourself for free? So far I've been able to find the tests but not the answers. JLPT 2009-1 (July) 2級 thoughts - snallygaster - 2009-07-06 I took it too (squeeked out a pass on the December 2008 round, just took it for practice). I'm also not sure how I did... It will be pretty embarassing if I failed this time despite passing 6 months ago, but it's possible. I've been studying (moderately), but I didn't do much prep for the actual test. I didn't do any practice tests this time around, and apart from a handful of JLPT-style sentences in my SRS I didn't do any test prep until the last few days. After the test I found I really didn't have a good idea of how well I did. But my recollections were: vocab / kanji -- about what I expected, although not as good as I had hoped and I *know* I made a couple of stupid mistakes. Maybe 70-75% on this part. listening -- first half I did quite well, only 1 total guess and a few that I had narrowed down to 50/50. In the second half, I had a *lot* of difficulty understanding the questions, with the result that I had to guess the answer even when I understood the dialogue. Maybe 60% on listening. reading / grammar -- reading was about what I expected. I was happy I seemed to do quite well on the first (longest) reading; that one can really kill you. What surprised me was the short grammar questions were a *lot* harder than I remembered. Couldn't decypher the graph question in the 3 minutes I had left, either. Maybe 55-60% on reading/grammar. I blame that distracting sloth drawing. (barely!) ![]() Kanji/Vocab 64% Listening 74% Reading/Grammar 57% I think this test was definitely harder than the 2006 test. I'm very glad I passed, as I wasn't really looking forward to trying again in December! How did everyone else go? |
