Here on Kauai we take the War on Drugs serious. Each month during "Operation Green Sweep", the local police department spends $25,000 in tax money to rent a helicopter and hover over the properties of local land owners early in the morning while they sleep. Also, the person I got it from is in fact already a doctor, only he's still doing his specialization. So I think I'm okay in that department.
Liking it to hard drugs in general or cocaine and or speed and or crack and or heroine is, of course, plain silliness. It's not like I'm dicing it up and snorting it, which, as I read earlier today, would have an intensified effect. (This is not part of today's tip.)

It is still a 'prescription' and not taking it is obviously better than taking it don't you agree? It might give you a one-time boost (at an expense for some people) and then what? You take one today and what, study your 350 cards, and then, tomorrow you take one again?? c'mon

One cannot start talking about Ritalin, then referring to it as a drug (which it is) and then linking it to speed and or cocaine (which it's not). Even if it is made up of the same elements, it is not the same thing for otherwise there'd be no cocaine.
I would not be surprised if my being from the Netherlands has caused people to respond more harshly as it is viewed as a drug haven by many. Of course, we (Dutchies) know how and that our policy works. Of niet dan?

btw I'm quite surprised that there are quite some Hollanders learning Japanese here. Didn't know it was that popular hehe. Maybe because Dutch people toch gewoon meer aanleg hebben in 't leren van talen.

I can confirm though that it has a positive effect when you review a new Kanji for the first time (e.g. when it expires after three days). Actually, I learn Kanji as some kind of "training" to stimulate my always-tired brain, and together with the medication it actually works quite well in somewhat restoring my ability to concentrate and being able to keep my job.
However, this medication has some very nasty side effects when it wears off as an adult, in my case being irritated, some muscle spasms and showing signs of being very distracted (like a rebound of a person that has ADHS), and I live in permanent fear that I could develop a tolerance or dependency of that substance. I would never ever recommend it to anyone who does not desperately need it.

My first eating experience in Japan was at a Mr. Donut. I bought what I thought was an apple filled donut with brown sugar on top. I bit into it and thought, "What the H***!!!". The comparison to cocaine and harder drugs seems pretty valid. People always make the mistake of thinking "Oh it's a pill so it's not as bad as people that shoot things up in their body." It's the reason pill abuse is such a problem in schools, raves, and other places. Of course pills can be just as bad if not worse than hard drugs, just do some research about your new drug of choice.

This happens to me all the time with beans. ("Ooh look a brownie with chocolate on top. Mmmphmm ::plegh:: this is beans with bean sauce on top!") I just have stopped ordering any desert entirely and just eat fruit at home instead.
