Chinese Newspapers - Terhorst - 2007-06-13

The other day I came across some free Chinese newspapers, and I decided to grab a couple.

I'm actually having fun going through them and circling all the characters I know from RTK. Most of them seem to be exactly the same as in Japanese.

It's a little bit strange, but I actually find it a bit more useful for Kanji to Keyword review than the Japanese books I picked up because the newspapers are much more dense with characters. And it's encouraging to see look back on how many I circled (something I wouldn't do in a book).

If you happen to have a chance to grab one, I recommend it.

(On an barely related note, one of the local Chinese restaurants has fortune cookies with "Learn Chinese" vocabulary on the back. My friends have great fun quizzing me on the characters to see if I can guess the word. Even though the vocab is fairly easy, I'm surprised that I can get it right as often than not.)

As a web equivalent you can also try to guess the kanji on Signese.com, a "collection of photos of Chinese characters in action".
