We're waiting for you Big Grin
Sorry, the less people using my favorites, the faster my streaming goes.

Not a great one for educational benefit really, unless you really need words like "きもち" and "いく!" reinforced.

A couple of years ago I was at the checkout of a local health food store where I live in Florida. The cashier, a young girl, was writing hiragana on a notepad, which started a conversation. A minute later my wife and the cashier were chatting away in Japanese. It was Emily aka applemilk. At 16, she could speak Japanese quite well, if not fluently, which is impressive. It was humbling to me, and she became an inspiration to get my butt in gear. Anyway, to me, she's a friend and a young person trying to figure out life.

haha I never posted in this thread because all the sites I visit that are Japanese have explicit material, though are not actually porn sites.

Well, it's nice that some people like her so she has friends, because personally I find her completely repugnant.

From what I have heard, she is from New York and has a wealthy father so it would be odd she would be working as a cashier in Florida. Are you sure it was her? I only learned of her a few weeks ago after she started posting lists on smart.fm and created a YouTube video to promote them. She made a mistake in front of the whole YouTube world (not counting the soft porn video) but is very young so it will blow over and she will most likely have a nice career ahead of her. Though there are people who really, really hate her now for that university scam.

Totally certain. This waste of a minute of your life is filmed at our local mall:

Don't know Emily's life story, but she lived here and worked ordinary jobs. Don't care for her videos, (or 90% of amateur youtube stuff) but nice enough person in person.

Anyway... back to our own lives...

I had never heard of this emily / applemilk before reading this thread. I spent a couple of minutes googling this person. I wish I hadn't.

There are many interesting channels on the Youtube Most Subscribed Japanese page http://www.youtube.com/members?s=ms&t=a&g=0. The top four, I just don't get. #2 & #3 are anime so it is understandable.
#1 Magibon who basically just sits there and smiles.
#4 Applemilk who is like the psycho ex-girlfriend you had to get a judge to write out a restraining order for.
Yet tens of thousands of people subscribe to them over much more interesting language and culture channels. Even #5, Girl with hot legs playing guitar, is more entertaining but still bizarre to be listed so high.

Well, to be fair, shouldn't the links provided be Japanese links? It's easy for most of us to find a good link about Japanese in English. What's your favorite Japanese site (not site about Japanese, but a site that's in Japanese)?

**yep, not getting into that whole YouTube personality thing discussion**

Oops, yea. That is what the thread question asked for. OK, no more English links from me Smile

I never heard of her either. Didn't bother to look her up(it annoys me when people talk about something I've never heard of like every already knows).

For programmers, infoq has a Japanese page.
Most of the articles seem to be (professionally?) translated from English originals

It was nice to revisit this thread. The sites recommended are still solid. Ignore the AppleMilk discussion and add some more recommendations.

I didn't see this site recommended, but I like it. It links to streaming radio stations all over Japan. Kind of cool, in that it's live radio, and it's usually smaller stations, and you can sample all over the country.

And yeah, I joined Mixi recently, too, although I'm still trying to get the hang of it, especially which Mixi apps for the iPhone are worth it. Looks like mixi Browser mini and mUploader are winners so far. The mixi app from mixi itself is kind of bleh.
