Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - HonyakuJoshua - 2013-10-02 Thanks splatted and Tashippy. It will be technical translation provided they send me work I failed about 50 trials when I started out, so I was made up as we say in scouseland
Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - Zgarbas - 2013-10-16 Finally had proper conversations in a business situation . Made a bunch of mistakes, but my employers were surprisingly understanding. Also, interpreted Japanese for the first time. It didn't go to well when I was hit with random stuff like "lubricants for purification systems" (though ironically I'd come across purification systems before, I had a lapsus). Also, my speech fluidity is coming on well, though I still stumble on conjugations sometimes. Bowing a gajillion times saying よろしくおねがいいたします and おつかれさまでした also came surprisingly natural. Note to self: Having my first job interpreting technical terms should have come before having my first ever "have a business conversation" (and in between you and me, before one of my first 5 ever IRL conversations...) Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - Northern_Lord - 2013-11-22 Just finished my fifth deck of core 2000, so now I can with certainty say I "know" at least 1000 Japanese words. Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - Zgarbas - 2013-11-23 Today, when I realised that I haven't studied in 2 months and that the N1 is one week away, I didn't cry. Too much. Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - sholum - 2013-11-23 I finished adding new cards to Core 6k, so I started being harsh about passing cards again. I think my plan to start intensive reading after Thanksgiving may have been a little optimistic. Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - gibosi - 2013-11-23 Finished reading my third Japanese book.
Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - Betelgeuzah - 2013-11-23 After a summer of little to no Japanese studies I'm finally back in the game. 1300 new words left on Core6k should be easy to take care of. Today I started a new character in FFXIV on a JP server using the JP client. It's surprisingly fun, but obviously painful because I haven't dived in to native materials extensively until now. I understand maybe 50-70% of what is being said, so it's good enough. It reminds me of playing games back when I was 8 years old trying to decipher the English used. "I understand what "dog" means but what is a "Naughty Dog"? Good times. I think I want to gather the new words I encounter to Anki and just play in small chunks (say, every play session should net me 10-20 new words to add to Anki). That way I feel like I am making progress not just in-game but in my language studies, too. Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - ryanjmack - 2013-12-26 Finished working through Tae Kim's guide yesterday, and finished Core 2k today.
Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - egoplant - 2013-12-26 It was a month ago now, but I didn't manage to break 10k words for my first year of Japanese, and I'm on track to do another 10k this year. Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - PotbellyPig - 2014-01-25 I'm going to hit my two year mark on Jan. 29. That was the first day I started to use the flash card system on this site to study kanji. Well I just wanted to summarize what I've done at thus mark: - Finished RTK 1 - Just passed the 15,000 word mark (Core 10k (really only abt 9,500) + 5,000+ words I encountered in novels). - Some textbooks I went through: Genki I and II, Tobira, Kanzen Master N2 and N1, Japanese the Manga Way - Read many light novels - abt. 16 or so. - I am poor in listening ability I just finished going through a one hour drama in sub2srs. I'm am adding a second hour now. I have to get up to speed here. I really neglected listening and focused on reading. Anyway, I hope to bump up the word count over the next year and spend more time on my listening ability. I have to thank this site for all the help! Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - Hirakana - 2014-01-26 I'm at 2100 words in Core after restarting in December. Continuing at a pace of 50 a day, I'll be done in April. Reviews are really starting to pile up (282 tomorrow!) as well as with my DoBJG deck, but I can handle it. My Japanese is improving really quickly, and I've never been so motivated. Hopefully I can keep this up and get N2 in December. Wish me luck ![]() Also congrats to potbellypig, hopefully I'll be able to read novels soon enough too! Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - anotherjohn - 2014-01-26 Read a complete manga volume yesterday, bringing my total to 3. I've found in Anki that after a period of time (several months) the number of reviews per day go up to 11-12x the number of cards you add a day. I usually have about a 10% miss rate overall. If your's is better than it will be somewhat less. So 50 new cards a day may add up after a while. I like to do 33 new words a day and have about 350 reviews a day. Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - Vempele - 2014-01-28 I just repped a deck to full maturity. Total time spent so far: 31 seconds per card. Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - fxlle - 2014-01-29 One day one unit, but the pace of processing is suspend because of sth. Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - fxlle - 2014-01-29 All and all, happy for the holidays from which I can free up time to learn. The most important point.. Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - Northern_Lord - 2014-02-14 Just finished Core 2000 ![]() Now for core 6000. EDIT: Wow. Coincidently, clearing all 2000 cards of my Core 2000 deck actually brought me to no less than my 24.999th review in that particular deck. Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - rokudo - 2014-02-14 Just hit the halfway point in core 6k
Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - Lawson - 2014-02-19 Finished reading こころ in November. Became a bit lazy and didn't do much reading but then got round to finishing 霧島部活やめるってよ. I am now reading academic books in Japanese for my dissertation, currently about 60 pages into my first! Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - ashman63 - 2014-02-26 Just found out I passed the Kanji Kentei level 6. Hooray for fifth grader literacy! Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - Keraria - 2014-02-27 I started studiying Japanese in November. I found a N5 past paper and tried answering it. I actually managed to finish it and checked it. I got over 60% right. I don't really know how the scoring works, so I have no idea how much each question is worth, so I calculated the percentages. And felt the need to brag
Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - Livonor - 2014-02-27 Hello world, I'm here to say that something fantastic is happening in my life right now, it all started when 4 days ago I saw a post in this forum called "How to do reps fast", I become inspired and tried the approach out in the next day, learned 300 words in that day, and 430 words yesterday. But I wanted to go to the limit, just to see how far I could go, so today I learned 1000 words! I'm feeling on the top of the world right now, like the Bruce Lee of the SRS. I plan to learn 430 words a day in order to pass the 20000 words mark in a month, my plan is to learn them superficially and then focus on extensive reading and listening in the next months, I never saw someone who was stupid enough to try such I thing, so I am probably the first one, but it's seems possible! Learning all that vocab in a month and then just relax I focus on listening, reading and using it makes so much sense, cause due to my own personal experience I realized that was easy to hear and make your vocab deeper once you actually know the stuff. 1000 words was a fun challenge, that I probably never will be crazy enough to repeat, but 430 is a breeze, so I don't see anything that prevents me to reach my goal. P.S: I was at about 7000 words when I started this project I'm using core 6000 Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - kitakitsune - 2014-02-28 20,000 words in one month? I'm skeptical. Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - dtcamero - 2014-02-28 daily reviews average around 10-15x your add rate. include lots of fails because your cards aren't mature yet, and we could be talking 10,000 reviews a day. I hope you ate your wheaties. Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - He4rtl3ss - 2014-02-28 Livonor, I don't know how many hours your day has, but for me I have only 24h a day. And over 16 hours I have to sleep, go to school and eat. So only 8 hours are left I don't know if I can belive you but learning 1.000 new words in a day impossible. And if it would be possible you would feel like an half dead man. Little math 1.000 words x 2 minutes per word (because you're fast).. 33 hours and after 1 hour of learning the learning speed drastically reduces without taking a good amount of a break. Also 430 words a day is impossible. It would be like 14 hours of learning with breaks etc. it would be nearly doubled. Plus the 3-5 hours of review. Good luck human whose day has over 24 hours. |
