Check out this clip:

One of the most beautiful performances I've ever seen.
That composition, the performance and emotion must be one of the best of its kind. I love how she really expresses her emotions and makes them beam out of the piano like that.

And it's such a contrast her more up-tempo styles like in this and Time Out. Argh, they took down the greatest performance of Time Out Sad only this part is left.

Seeing her live must have been really great. Was she playing with Anthony Jackson and Simon Phillips?

Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - Zorlee - 2012-03-25

No, the first time I saw her she played with her old trio (my favorite!), Martin Valihora and Tony Grey.
The show last year was a one-day-only concert together with Osaka Symphony Orchestra. It was insane.

I actually don't like her new stuff though. I love Anthony Jackson, he played great on "Brain", but Simon Phillips just sounds too heavy for me. I love his drumming, but the 80s Toto drum sound does NOT fit into her music... Well, at least I think so Smile

Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - TwoMoreCharacters - 2012-03-25

You got to see her with Tony and Martin? Smile I haven't really gotten into what she's doing with her new trio yet, but I suspect the former are my favorite too. And Dave Fuze, though he's only on the Time Control album, right?

Maybe we're too off topic by now... although learning enough Japanese to get to experience such an awesome musician is a real achievement too. Smile

500 vocab.

started core 1k a few days ago. I knew quite a few of the words already but now I know the most common 500 for sure Big Grin

I found out today that I'm going to be awarded a $10,000 scholarship from a certain very large Japanese multinational IT services company. Free money woo.

Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - nadiatims - 2012-03-26

nice work!

where will you be studying(?)?

Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - kitakitsune - 2012-03-26

I'm already in a graduate program in Hawaii. It's just extra money for me for when I do my capstone final semester in Tokyo.

I study business and Japanese language.

Zorlee Wrote:I just got a mail from the Japanese embassy here in Oslo and they said I'll get recommended for the MEXT scholarship 2012 - Japanese studies, 1 Year.
WOHO! Big Grin
The final answer from Japan will come late-May according the embassy, but according to history it'll probably come late June/July...
I hope my chances are good for getting it! I know there's no quota per country, but I was the only Norwegian that got recommended, so I hope that counts for something...
Zorlee Wrote:I won the first prize in a Japanese speech contest conducted by the Japanese embassy. YAY!
And the prize was awesome - a free round-trip ticket to Japan! Big Grin
Congratulations!! Good luck and have fun, you seem to deserve both! Smile
It is really nice to hear you've go a trip and I wish for you to get the scholarship.

If I decide on continuing to graduate school, I will for sure apply for a Monbukagakusho scholarship.

I had my first ever 100% retention SRS day. Big Grin (37 cards) It's absolutely meaningless, but still, yay!

Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - Zorlee - 2012-03-28

I just finished updating 10k+ vocab cards with pitch codes.
Took me A LOT of time. But it's so worth it Smile

Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - Tori-kun - 2012-03-28

@Zorlee: Could you let me a see a snapshot how you made the pitch-code? And how are you so god damn fast!? How do you know what is the right pitch-accent? Audio? Big Grin

Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - Zorlee - 2012-03-28

I just put it on top of "meaning".
F.ex.:

Front:
茶道

Back:
1

茶の湯の道。

(1 being the accent code).
Yes, I have audio as well, but not all words have audio for download via the plug-in.
And about my speed, well, I spent like 8 hours a day on this, so I'm not fast, I just didn't do anything else. Haha!

EDIT: I find the codes in 大辞林。I used this online dictionary for it. http://www.weblio.jp

Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - Tori-kun - 2012-03-28

"1" meaning the first mora being stressed, right? 8 hours? 気が狂ってくるんじゃねぇか!?w
Edit: Wrote an email to you Big Grin

Been a while in coming but I'm finally done with the Core6k.

The 1 unseen card is 師走 which I suspended since I didn't have the care in the world to bother with a word that most Japanese have told me they never use or see unless its on a calendar. Even then not all calendars have it on them. Plus its reading is nothing like what I would expect, meaning its another bizarre exception case to learn. I also deleted a dupe sentence from the deck, hence 5999. Now to add more words.

I will say I'm very pleased with the level/breadth of vocabulary that the deck gives you. It sounds really stupid but its weird being able to actually read stuff now when months ago I could only read 30-40% of stuff. My vocab is still vastly lacking but at least now I can build on it more easily. From here I think I'll tackle grammar some more. Probably on course to pass the N2 this summer.

Wow, 170 new cards in one day? I could never do that. XD

Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - vix86 - 2012-04-01

Sometimes I hit sections where the words were stuff I knew already so I only needed to associate the kanji with what I already knew. On those days I reviewed more new cards. Other days it was new words I didn't know or the kanji were difficult so I added fewer cards. Technically at the end I shouldn't have rushed like I did since I hit a lot of really hard cards. My brain has gotten good at remembering this stuff though so I pick up the words faster now. Once you have 3000 or so under your belt it picks up I think.

What deck is that? Is it a 2k + 6k deck?

At least my 6k deck has "only" 4k facts, for a total of 8k cards (I use one card for kanji recognition and other for audio recognition, with the word written in kana).

Anyway, Big GZ!! This deck has lots of boring words to learn :/ But I really like it Tongue

This deck is the core6k. It has the 2k + upper 4k. I only studied written recognition. It may be against my better judgement and hurt me in the long run, but I think listening comprehension will eventually fall into place. I may try to make some sub2srs decks in the future to work on listening but I still need to find a series I like thoroughly enough to do that with.

Honestly I believe the foundations put down by reading words, can be built on with a bit of work without needing a separate reinforcement for listening. After all, I don't need to constantly hear a word in English (in addition to reading it) to necessarily know its meaning.

EDIT: Also meant to add that, ya, lots of boring words but many of them are kind of important. So its good to know them all. The more complex stuff you want to read/talk about, the more difficult and boring the vocabulary for it will be.

Finished reading the DOBJG. Great read. I can't wait for the DOIJG, the romaji in DOBJG really prooved to be a bother from the middle onwards.
Reached the 2.5 k vocab mark a few days ago too.
I never fully understood the momentum stuff, but now it seems I can't be stopped. Cool feeling.

I don't know whether to post this in achievements or failures but needless to say, it's a milestone. I had my first serious verbal fight with someone which lasted a long time and we both had a lot to say. This time it wasn't Japanese I learned but instead a life lesson.

Passed N1 in December. Finally finished Core6k today. I feel a bigger sense of accomplishment having finished Core6k than with passing N1.

Now it's on to 10k.

Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - jonuhey - 2012-04-06

I just hit 50% of mature cards on my Mixed Vocab deck (Core-KO2001-SoumatomeN3N2-JLPT).

Mature: 5170 (50,0%)
Young: 1424 (13,8%)
Not seen: 3748 (36,2%)

Im studying pretty hard these last days, adding from 20 to 50 words daily that I get from Soumatome N2 Kanji and other sources, thats why I have 1424 young cards, with daily 200-250 reviews and increasing.

The Not seen words are all suspended, and I only unsuspend them if I stumble upon them somewhere and cant figure out the meaning.

Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - nadiatims - 2012-04-06

@partner55083777

nice job. But I wouldn't have thought N1 should even be possible if your vocab is so low that you'd want to use core6k.
