Recently have been able to understand 50-70 % of certain anime series, and have a okay understanding in others... Also can go a few pages in shounen manga without having to look up words and understand most grammar in manga...

If you destroy as in delete the whole thing then it can restore it.... If you go on a wild deleting spree and screw up, then I don't think it'll help. If you really screw up, anki saves backs up, doesn't it?

For the record, by ‘cleared’ I meant I successfully restudied/passed the cards, i.e. they are no longer failed or expired. ;p
I did perform some culling as well, however. Suspended my first subs2srs cards, amongst others (e.g. the cards made before newer versions of subs2srs implemented filtering features I began to use regularly). I usually don't delete, so I can still use the card browser when using the decks as searchable multimedia corpora.

Not really a milestone achievement, but picked up Killzone 3 yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to see that it has full JP support on the disc (with full text support and voice acting woop!)
Soo glad it saves me from importing more games, haha.I guess the achievement is that the few minutes I played it I recognized quite a few more words than last time I played a JP game.

Wrote a 3500 character letter as an explanation reply to my friend's mail.
I explained all kinds of things and I'm happy that I was able to explain everything, although the whole process (including lang-8) took maybe 18 hours in total. Intermediate grammar FTW!
3 months ago I didn't even have a lang 8 or a mixi account, not to mention that I hadn't written anything longer than maybe 100 characters.
So I'm very happy with my progress.

Wow, that IS an accomplishment! おつかれさまでした！(<-Not usually written in kanji, right?)
I know a friend who works in a textbook company who recommended me for an interview-thingy for Ja-net Magazine. So I wrote a 1600 word essay with the help of Lang-8. (It took me like 5 hours I think...because I had to write a separate English one as well)
日本の独特で美しい文化のために、日本語を勉強している学生が多くいます。また、日本語そのものの美しさに惹かれて勉強している学生もいます。言語を学ぶということは、普段見ている世界を 新しい色で見ることだと思います。僕は日本語を筆頭に、外国語の勉強を始めてからというもの、世界観が広がりました。そして、日本語を勉強するにつれて、どんどん僕自信のことを理解するになりました。多くの人たちは、日本語を選ぶにあたって、その文化を理由にしますが、僕の場合は少し、自分本位な理由がありました。僕には発音とテンポに影響を及ぼす言語障害があるので、これまで劣等感を抱えて生きてきました。 僕は自分の弱点を克服したいと思い、外国語をマスターしようと心に決めたのです。 ４年間勉強してきて、様々な経験をし、多くの友人得、色々な物の見方ができるようになりました。アメリカ人はグローバル言語である英語を話せるばかりに、それに甘えて、他の言語を習わないと言われます。それゆえ、アメリカは「人種のるつぼ」と言われるほどに多くの人種がいるのにも関わらず、バイリンガルの人が少ないです。皮肉ですよね。 そのことが僕の夢につながりました。僕たちはなにかが足りない。僕は将来、外国語の教師になり、みんなのためになりたいと考えています。
高校進学前の１４歳の夏に日本語の勉強を始めました。最初に覚えた言葉は「こんにちは」とか「さようなら」ではなく、友達に「美しい牛」と教えられました。始めてから2週間で言葉を通じて平仮名と片仮名を納得し、すっかり覚えました。抽象的な文字より、分かりやすい言葉のほうが簡単だと思ったからです。この方法の成功ですから、楽に日本語の勉強を変えてみました。その効果は素晴らしく、日本語を覚えるための影響は大きかったですね。そのため、今でもローマ字は読めません。脳の中で日本語を理解する部分は英語のそれとは最初から違っていました。高校に入るまでに、基本の文法とさらに漢字を100個覚えました。
高校では日本語の授業が可能でよかったです。（ワシントン州に住んでいる日系人はかなり多いので）自分が夏の二ヵ月間に勉強した日本語と比べ、高校の一年間の英語の授業内容は仮名と例えば「田中さんは日本人です」のようなものでした。 すごくがっかりしました！僕が賢いと言いたいのではなく、学校外国語教育の教え方が悪いことを書きたいのです。日本語で歌や本を楽しんだり、手紙を書いたりする代わりに、小テストや試験をして、進学のために費やしました。アメリカでは外国語教師は苦しんでいます。学生が良い点を取れない場合に、先生は職を奪われるでしょう。別の先生に取って変わります。学生を励ますより、学ぶレベルを落とすほうが、普通はためらわれます。 また、いったん簡単にすると、どんどん簡単になってしまうかもしれませんね。僕の教室では、アニメキャラについての絵を描いて成績をつけます。僕の成績は200％を超えてから、100％に変えられました。正しいクレーヨンで絵を上手に描いたはずなんだけどな？ 高校１年生の頃、自分で選んだ音楽を聴き始めました。 日本語の勉強のため、日本語の音楽を聞こうと決めました。 初めての唄はGReeeeNの「道」です。その時から、勉強している言語の唄しか聴いていません。
一年間が経って、オンライン高校に転校してから、 日本語を勉強しています。もう一年間が経って、JOIというオンラインにある日本語学校を見つけました。（ http://www.japonin.com）この学校では日本語の学習方法として、日本語で会談したり、練習したりしました。JOIで初めての座談を経験しました。 教師はクイズや試験を問わず、自由に教える事が可能です。 JOIでは英語を使ってはいけません。 日本語や図表で新しいポイントを練習します。 つまり、英語を使わないから、日本語にどんどん強くなりました。
去年にあと外国語選択授業が必要なので、近くの大学で最高の日本語コースを試しました。 アメリカではランニング●スタートというプログラムで、高校の授業のかわりにだ近くの大学で勉強できることです。）日本語の勉強をできるいいチャンスでしたが、授業はあまり良くありませんでした。 大学では英語を勉強している留学生がたくさんいました。 初めてに日本人に会って、相槌と身振りを経験しました。そのとき、男性の日本語がよく理解できませんでした。それに、日本式の会話を理解できませんでした。「まったく、日本語は複雑だなー」と思いました。食堂やバス亭などで日本人の友達と会話を練習して、日本の若者文化をよく習いました。 お返しに、彼らの英語の宿題を手伝いました。 多くの日本語を勉強している学生は教室で日本語をマスター出来るように勉強すると一方で、僕は友達とともに日本語を気楽に練習しました。カヤックと美術館などを案内しました。ある日、練習と冗談を合わせました。全部の絵の名前の後に「＿＿っぽいね」と言ってみます。直ぐに、皆さんは「っぽい」という表現を使って、笑いました。外国語ではどんな詰まらない冗談でも面白くなるということです。 外国語で会話する恐怖は共通です。けれど、最善を尽くして頑張らなければならないと思います。日本人の幼児も間違えたら、添削して貰って習うものですよ。これは「猿も木から落ちる」みたいなものですね。
アメリカ人にとって、日本語は簡単な言語ではありません。文法は複雑で、名前は読みにくいですんが、一番難しいところは漢字ですよね。中国語に比べても難しいです。日本の漢字は音読みと訓読みと当て字などあります。それでは、読み方を10超える漢字が多いです。「上」を見ると、「上がる」や「上手」や「うえ」や「のぼる」や「上着」を思い浮かべます。会話に「とる」と聞くと13の言葉の中から考えなければならず、困ります。 外国人にとって大変ですよね。 日本人の高校生の漢字の勉強方法は外国人には良くないと思います。 外国人が漢字を勉強する場合、文字と意味と用法を同時に学ばなければなりません。例えば、「情」を習う時、「情報」や「国情」の言葉も勉強します。ですから、僕はヘイシッグさんの「How to Remember the Kanji」を使いました。漢字の使い方と読みを教えるかわり、英語の意味と書き方しか教えません。それに、漢字勉強の秘密を表しています。この本を使った漢字の勉強の仕方を説明してみます。
漢字の部首が並んでいます。全ての部首には「 記憶術的あるいは視覚的イメージ」があります。元の意味を問わず、自分自身で作った意味もよろしいです。全然違っても、テレビのキャラでもいいのです。日本語を勉強しているアメリカ人にとって、部首の歴史は重要ではなく、部首で漢字を理解することが重要です。例えば、私の「魚」のイメージはファイニング●ニモの「ニモ」で、「人」は私の最高の友達です。その 記憶術的イメージを使って、物語やイメージを作って、簡単に漢字を覚えることが出来ます。

物語：ニモくんはクジラの中にいて、ニモにとってクジラの中は「京」みたいです。『本当の京を思い浮かべてください。』
このように常用漢字を覚えました。それから、日本語の言葉を習うとき漢字で覚えました。漢字の意味を理解できるから、簡単に言葉を覚えることが出来ます。（日本人の覚え方とは、反対かもしれません。まず言葉を知っています。言葉を通じて、漢字を覚えることですね。）
去年の10月に高校で日本語を教え始めました。 パソコンのことをあまり知らないし、オンラインで教えるのは大変でしたが、学生とともに学びました。イルーミンネートというオンラインクラスで教えて、ウェブサイトやイメールを設置しました。クラスが「nihonGO!」と言います。 毎週火曜日の3時に授業を始めます。唄を見せながら、フィアルを送ります。仮名の勉強方法はすごく重要なので、レッスンはすべて自分で作りました。 レッスンを作るため、キャラクターを描いたり、冗談を言ったりします。 キャラクターはワッフルが大好きなウィルくんと和食を作ることができる餅子ちゃんです。 物語の中で、二人は世界でも通用するシェフになりたいという夢を持っています。 皆さんは食べ物に興味がありますよね。学生は質問があれば、いつでもEメールを送ることができます。
今まで、600個の言葉、平仮名、片仮名と会話の文法を覚えましたが、まだ勉強は始まってないような感じがします。まだ始めないような感じします。 あと、3ユニットを教えるのです。 もう日本語の基本を学習出来たと思うので、今後は教科書を使うつもりです。んな教科書を使う場合でも、Anki（暗記）というフラッシュカードプログラムで教えます。 このプログラムで、いつでも、どこでも学生の復習のために私が作ったカードを送ることが出来ます。いつでも、どこでも。今後も私は頑張り続けます。
日本語は私の生活に影響を与え、世界観をより鮮明にしています。 日本人の見地から、米国のことも学ぶことが出来ました。 本当に日本語に感謝してますが、いくら私が生徒たちにそれを教えても恩返しできないような感じがします。 今年は初めて日本に旅しますが、私と同じの変化を他の人たちにも経験してもらいたいと思います。それに、たこ焼きも食べたいと思います。：）
私はまだまだネイティブのように話せませんが、友達の助けを借りて、一生懸命頑張れば、絶対に出来ると信じます。Ja-netを通して私の本当の気持ちを表すことが出来たことに感謝しています。

僕の友達は「お疲れ」を漢字で書いたことがあると思いますが。
Actually That letter my friend wrote my was a kind of a letter of complaint or something (lots of problems). A fairly negative one, despite her saying that no one's angry or anything.
Writing this letter wasn't just hard because of it being in Japanese.
To keep our relationship good, and not to hurt anyone or defend myself too much I had to look up all kinds of tips on google on how to write a positive reply to a negative letter.
And oh that's a good task, isn't it?
Pretty damn hard...I value the relationship, so I very carefully thought everything through. Despite this, I accidentally pushed the send button in the middle of making final refinements and oh...I had tested putting a pretty embarassing silly heart smiley
(which no normal human being would use...) , and it got sent before I could substitute it for something else! So much for embarassment...
Btw it seems to be a pretty interesting essay. I read the first paragraph, but it's slightly too hard/slow/advanced for me, so I gave up

I work as an English teacher in Japan, and today was graduation. The gym teacher kept telling me all day that I was going to give the toast to the homeroom teachers tonight at the party... and I thought he was kidding.
Until we got to the party, and one of the teachers tells me that I'll give the speech in about ten minutes as soon as the last of the homeroom teachers comes. So I was like "WHAAAT!? That mofo was serious!?"
Anyway, with the help of a couple of set phrases from some teachers sitting near me--「感慨無量でしょう？」, 「今日は一年間の疲れを癒してください」, and the like--it all went over super well and was a good little toast.
Ooooohhhh yeahhh.

I decided to suck it up, and read manga, even though I can only understand about half of it. I look words up occasionally that strike me, and just keep going. I obviously can't understand everything, but I get what's going on and it makes me laugh! (I'm reading shoujou).
So proud. Just gotta keep increasing my vocab and grammar...after my exams, of course.
