I'm 100 sentences away from 3000 sentences added into Anki, hopefully I'll reach 3000 by the end of the week. I've managed to go from 2000 to 3000 in 2 months, compared to 1000 to 2000 which took about 5 months. Although I doubt I'll be able to do another 1000 in in 2 months as I'm starting university soon. I'm gonna set a target of 20 new sentences a day.

Would you mind sharing what level you were at before you discovered Anki? Smile

It's hard to describe precisely, but I have had passed 3kyuu more than a year before and I had learned around 1300 kanji in the Kanji in Context order in a very, very shallow way. I was using a SRS program called jMemorize, but I was doing only production and it was both very time consuming and inefficient.
Going through RTK almost doubled the no. of kanji I could recognize, Core 2000 (used in the sentence way) filled some holes in my vocab and inputting most of KM2 into Anki accounted for grammar reviews.

Bought N2 予想問題集 books and tried on of the mock tests.
I had plenty of time especially for the reading (I still think there must be some kind of mistake).
I'm not really satisfied with my score, though (am not even sure if I calculated it correctly):
Vocab/Kanji/Grammar: 78%
Reading: 81%
Listening: 81%
Total: 79%
(btw. last year 2kyuu mock test: 76% - almost no improvement - only that in that mock test I completely ran out of time and finished the test ignoring the time limit *g*)

Aiming for over 90% before I take the real thing, though.
Still a looooong way to go.
I'm gonna have a look at the explanation of the problems I got wrong now Smile

I just registered to take the JLPT this December in London! Only N5 (yeh yeh don't laugh), to be honest it's just a motivational tool to get me studying again..

Quite excited though!

Finally playing Guitar Hero drums on expert, woohoo!

Also, it feels like my Korean has vastly improved after I found a Korean language patch for Phoenix Wright and decided to throw in a "Let's add 50 new sentences or more per day" month. Guess Anki has it's merits after all.

Yay, I finally finished Core6000 and am now starting my own vocab deck.

Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - wulfgar - 2010-09-23

I finally reached 513 in my last box here on RevTK. The awesome thing about it is 513 kanji is ~25% of 2050, so I have 25% kanji in my super long term memory. I am 75% away from reaching my kanji goal of all my cards in the 7+ reviewed pile XD.

Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - Evil_Dragon - 2010-09-28

Got all my reviews done in about half the usual time. Now if only I knew how I did that.

Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - zachandhobbes - 2010-09-28

I stopped doing Anki and RtK website SRS concurrently and find my reviews much more bearable.

Halfway through SRSing all 4 episodes of 刑事の現場. Have started reading real, actual novels and having fun doing it (セベンスタワー、 お金がない)

New achievement, can read japanese novels with only a few rare vocab/rare-reading that I can't read. I can understand/listen to anything in japanese and understand all of it now.[Obviously, what I mean by this is: majority of everything, movies,dramas,animes,tv-shows,reading articles,new-sites,etc. If it was a high-level about theoretical physics in Japanese, then there would be some high-level vocab but none-the less, you can't know everything in a language but you can become fluent]
The things that trip me up still, but is becoming less and less as I increase my kanji knowledge. Is names,place-names. That's about it. Aside from the rare readings, I've attained a good level of reading/understanding. I believe I will work on ways of improving speaking/writing next, which is so far is going good. I tend to use J books to explain j-stuff now.

If you don't mind me saying, these seem like rather nebulous "achievements".

When or how did you realise that you'd achieved these things?

Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - wulfgar - 2010-10-10

I finally broke the 600 mark in my uber mature kanji stack (7+ kanji box) with 601 kanji XD.

I just placed out of two years of college Japanese classes thanks to my self-study, saving me 12 units and thousands of dollars of tuition! I also went to the Japanese Club for the first time and was able to hold conversations with other Japanese learners entirely in Japanese, even though I haven't spoken Japanese outside of shadowing in many years. (I took a year-long class 8 years ago, muddled around on my own, and then started doing RTK/Core decks/AJATT stuff last October.) I'm so happy about this it's silly.

What I mean is that, slowly as the months kept passing by. I also had these books that I bought initially when I was learning japanese, that at first couldn't read any of it or very little. But slowly as the months went by, I noticed I could understand more, read more, etc. I definitely think it took me around 1 full year to get to these abilities. But that's not a bad thing, as I've come to learn is: The best way to learn is to learn within the language and to put in your hours. Simple as that

Just finished とらドラ, my first ever novel in Japanese! Pretty happy about this, even though this of course took less time than RTK1, RTK3, and JLPT1-4 vocab, it's by far the most important achievement to me thus far Smile

Wow, now that is cool. What did the Japanese Club members think of your learning methods (assuming you told them about it)?

1 year and 2 months now in total. I did take a full semester of a level 1 course in japanese but, I don't consider that into the number because solely, I forgot/didn't care at the time when I took it. It didn't really teach me much/or anything[only thing it taught me was, there was no way i could get fluent even if I took all courses.]. I soon found out that the highest level, level 8 would teach you only 400 kanji. Now I know around 2000-2500, so the self-study method definitely tells me you can learn a language on your own. The only thing that would be good is one on one tutors, because your only concentrated on yourself. Conversational classes and such things like this.

Nukemarine Wrote:Wow, now that is cool. What did the Japanese Club members think of your learning methods (assuming you told them about it)?
Until then they had been comparing Japanese experience purely by years of college classes taken, so they were surprised and wanted a lot of detail. These are people who have been taken college classes for 1-2+ years but said they couldn't comfortably read the book I had with me (a Slayers adaptation for 4th graders!). I recommended Anki but didn't have a chance to suggest other resources. The university's Japanese professor was especially astonished that I hadn't taken classes or even spoken Japanese in years.

To me, the best part is that I haven't been this fired up about learning Japanese since I ran into AJATT and RevTK a year ago, even though I don't *need* to study it anymore.

YEAH!!!!!! I just reached 1801 mature kanji cards!!!! whats even more awesome is the fact that my UBER mature pile has 664 cards in it Smile. I am 1387 kanji cards away from reaching my ultimate goal of all 2051 kanji in my 7+ review pile XD.

Woot, finally reached 100K reviews on my vocab deck!

Post Your Recent Milestone Achievement Here - Rina - 2010-11-02

I started watching dramas (only one actually) with japanese subs only. I have been watching "mother"'s episodes several times and my understanding on what they are saying rose, I have been adding vocabulary to anki and its getting clearer and clearer!

I think that my listening skills are getting better due to this. I've also been able to catch natural japanese expressions.

I'm so excited! I love the japanese language Big Grin

I've unsuspended all sentences from DoBJG & DoIJG that contain JLPT2 grammar points. I've also marked all those points I couldn't find (not only in the books but even the complete deck) and for some points I've "translated" them as best as I could into my native language. It all amounts to around 1000 sentence cards that I should go through as quickly as possible (review later ofc) and focus on listening comprehension.
